A good deal more mate, considering the £80 million or so he spent. When Fergie turned up he inherited a squad of alcoholics and made consolidation signings like Ralph Milne.

Or are you 'pool fans now finally accepting that Benitez left you in the total ****? If so then of course Dalglish will take time, otherwise have a look at the name of this thread and then realise it is just piss taking.

They finished 4th the season before though, and they were top at christmas in that season, so the ability was there. Think what Ferguson had to do just like Dalglish has to do now is change the mentality of the players. It takes more time than just getting new players in and building a new squad like what Fergusons been doing in the last 10 years or so 2 or 3 times.

Dalglish is massively over rated as a Manager by Liverpool fans.

if anyones going to get the time and money to rebuild liverpool, it's dalglish. Let's just hope the t-shirt like antics stop before it damages the clubs reputation totally

I know its piss taking! It was just a more general question, as every result that goes against us something gets written like A) The "Messiah is failing" or B) Dalglish proves that he's not a very good manager.

As I said in another thread, some of our results have been disappointing this season, but at this stage last season we were 3 pts off the relegation zone, now we're 3 pts off 4th this season. An improvement in anyone's eyes. And seeing as Dalglish teams, just like Ferguson teams, usually play better in the second half of the season, then I haven't given up on 4th place or even 3rd yet.

I suppose the criticism is something that happens to every manager though, for example people are quick to write the likes of Wenger and Ferguson off anytime something goes wrong. Maybe it comes with the territory of being succesful in the past, that people actively want to see you fail.

Definitely agree about changing the mentality, but like I said before I wonder if the mentality can be changed without wholesale changes to the players. When SAF came to Utd he found players like Whiteside, McGrath, Strachan and Stapleton were part of the problem, not the solution. I wonder if there's a similar issue at Liverpool and some of the big names will have to go for the whole squad to move out of theid shadow?

I think there's a similar problem at Chelsea right now, with some of the big players holding the team back, and Chelsea also underachieving relative to the quality of their team on paper. Wonder if AVB and Dalglish will get the board level support to make the neccessary, and possibly painful, changes...

the thing i don't understand with AVB is that he doesn't start drogba, who has been arguably the best striker in the prem for the past however many years. He seems to have crumbled under the pressure of getting torres firing goals in again, but if you look at the positions torres is taking up on the pitch, he's hardly ever in sight of goal anymore.

I think there is already a small bet on who will cut their loss first, Chelsea or us.

the danger is cutting your losses only to have the player you sold hitting the target left, right and centre. Then you (as the manager) get accused of ****e man management

or he doesn't suit our style and we made a really bad buy, at least that is what I think. Carroll + pass and move is like Lamb and tuna fish.

The fact that you bought downing to get the ball to his head and he doesn't seem capable. Maybe you should cut your losses on him and get someone who can cross a ball? Then again, Carroll is ****e.

1508: GOALFLASH Arsenal 1-0 Wolves (Gervinho)

    BBC Radio 5 live
Former Tottenham manager David Pleat at the Emirates Stadium on BBC Radio 5 live: "Gervinho certainly has the ability to unbalance defenders with his ability to go either way, but I am not so certain about his final ball."

    David Pleat fail <laugh>

I think that is worst thing with Downing and that is the main reason we bought him and he is providing nothing for Carroll, or anyone for that matter. Irritating but hopefully something clicks soon or the pressure on these two will continue to get bigger and bigger.

I don't know, we haven't got many big names who've been here for long really, bar Reina, Carragher and Gerrard. Gerrard has hardly played so you can't really pin anything on him and Reina is one of the worlds best goalkeepers, so it would be foolish to get rid of him really. Carragher has been dropped, and its seemingly done wonders to Skrtel and Johnson's confidence who now seem much more comfortable and in possession and defensive positions. Could be the fact they didn't like to be shouted at by Carragher for every mistake? Who knows, Arbeloa didn't seem too grateful when Carragher shouted at him.

I personally think its a mixture of the players we've bought not being good enough technically and not mentally strong enough to take their chances infront of goal when they are presented. How often do you see at Old Trafford an opposition player missing a decent chance then Man Utd going up the other end and scoring from a similar one? It happens weekly, then most of us talk about how lucky Man Utd were and had that chance gone in then Man Utd would've had a draw or loss. The fact is though, that's the winning mentality, isn't it? Its not a coincidence that smaller teams don't take their chances while Man Utd do. Its why you win games you don't even play well in, because you take those chances.

Glad we tend to agree on things, makes it a lot easier ;)

anywho... i think its finally starting to dawn on 'pool fans that the infamous 'gelling' period can no longer be an excuse and these two are looking increasingly like a waste of money. Even though i still feel liverpools biggest mistake is letting meireles go to chelsea. Maybe with gerrard coming back it might give the team a boost and suarez may get someone to link up with. well, after his ban <laugh>

Not really Bluff. Their play has been awful and ours has been great. It's down to the LHC being closed down for Christmas. Watch us fly in 2012.

I'll bet swarbs another pint that the scum don't win the PL <ok>

You enjoy the classic italian footy so we can always dicuss many things! I also personally feel that these two guys were also brought in not only to link up, but for the homegrown rule. I also think they were brought in to help take care of the lesser teams as they had prem experience and were ready for those and knew how to play against them. It just hasn't worked and I hope for some true quality in January. I hope Comolli has been a busy bee.
