well it was - you needed to score one more than they did to win, and you couldn't manage it, you lacked 1 goal
That's the difference in my opinion between you and City. City have world class players to slot straight in when someone gets injured, Man Utd don't. I'm not saying City are a better team as SAF is clearly a better manger than Mancini, but I reckon 2 more quality players are needed for you to be classed as a 'great' squad.
We do as well. 5 or 6 of our squad players played today. Others out of position. They were ****. Rooney, Vidic, Hernandez are not squad players.
Javier Hernandez - Yes Wayne Rooney - Yes Chris Smalling - At the moment yes Johhny Evans - Nemanja Vidic - Yes Rafael da Silva - Tom Cleverly - Possibly I'm not laughing to take the piss, just no way do I think they are first 11 players.
Name the amount of consecutive games in which SAF plays the same 11 players?,even when Utd dont have injuries he asseses the oppostition before choosing the starting 11 and the 5 or 6 injured players missing tonight even when fit are'nt always chosen.
I personally think Smalling can play at RB better than Rafael. Rafael always looks too inexperienced and nervous in my opinion. Although I agree that Smalling and Jones should play at CB as it looks like that's your future defence. How many more seasons do you see Vidic being your top man defensively? Rio is past it now, he'll probably be surplus to requirements come the summer.
Sadly i agree about Rio, but Vidic will be needed for a while yet. The Smalling and Jones will need an experienced head around.
I think Vidic has a few more years left, Think he's only 29? Really depends on his body, he isn't really injury prone, but once his body gives up he'll have a tougher time being as physical as he is now. Rio relies more on his head than he does of his physical traits, but I think he knows he's past and his head is on his other endevours ie twitter. What we're missing most right now is Vidic's leadership, we're so disorganized at the back its embarrassing. Or perhaps it isn't Vidic, but Van Der Saar? I think De Gea has been pretty fantastic the last few games, but he needs to be more vocal. I think he's a bit afraid of the more experienced players. I played my Goalkeeper and the first time I played with the Sunday League team my dad was on when I was 15, I was scared ****less of commanding my area because they're all dads/coaches ect. That's what De Gea's biggest problem is IMO.
That's a very good point about De Gea - He has looked impressive in recent games, but still looks like a scared child at times. I'm sure that's just part of settling in and he'll be a bastard to his defenders soon enough. The youngsters need to be mentored by Vidic - So they can become commanding defenders, as you definitely need one big voice there. For us we have Carra, you have Vidic. I see Jones becoming your big man, to be honest I'm not sure who we'll have who is full on commanding once Carra takes a back seat, slightly worrying to be honest. I'm hoping Kelly may step up to the mark if he gets played back to his original position of CB.
Other than Tim Howard being my compatriot, I LOVE how he gets up rips his defense a new one every time the opposing team gets an easy shot off. I'd like to see De Gea do that once in awhile. I got a yellow card once for yellow at my defense, told them to sack up or get the **** off my field.
Tim Howard is right though, keepers should be doing that. When Reina gets the hump, **** me the defenders know about it. Remember Schmeichel
De Gea needs to put on a couple of stone too, he's a bit lightweight and a sitting duck. He's made some great saves but has that look about him at the moment that he's going to be error prone. Other than that it had the look of a complacent performance rather than one that exposed the abilities or lack of them of the players. The kind of wake up call that will hold them in good stead.
Fergie said he's going to be doing the same workouts/diet that Javier Hernandez, Nani, and Ronaldo went through to bulk him up. In time I'm sure he'll be able to hold his own in the box. Probably end up being of a similar build as VDS. and Sky. ****ing Schmiechel. He scared me ****less, imagine being on the pitch with him, or worse yet, being the target of said abuse.
Dunno about commanding, but Skrtel looks ****ing scary! Not one you'd want to meet down a dark alley at night...unless you're into that sort of thing, eh Sky?
