I have to agree that United do have greater depth in their squad - far far more ageing, lacking and over-hyped players. Ferguson either wouldn't or couldn't address the isues which left you with a wreck of a defence and bloody great hole instead of a midfield. But don't try and tell me that we are challenging against a vastly superior United side because that is just plain lies. You can try and console yourself any way you chose but at least try and keep some touch with reality.

You are lacking as a club both on and off the pitch and its going to take more than 1 season to even start to address the problems - but I suppose your owners will attempt to paper over the cracks whilst still fleecing the club. However you could always adopt UIR's revisionism

 

If United get a decent manager they will knock Liverpool off their "perch" next season.

Although fair to point out that both of those campaigns coincided with your two worst league seasons of the past decade.

Chelsea have still (thus far) lacked Utd's ability to compete right to the end in the league and Europe - your best result in a title winning year is one semi final, whereas in the past decade we've had three final appearances, one of which was a win, all in title winning years. Tho' that's likely to happen less often in the future as SAF seems to have taken all our mental fortitude with him...

You are right tho', that Chelsea have still been a long way ahead of Liverpool in terms of their ability to compete on both fronts. Hard to imagine any Chelsea fans saying "good we're not in Europe this year, so we can concentrate on the league". Tho' it would have been hard to imagine any Utd fans saying it until recently.
