    Benitez = £9,000,000
    Dalglish = £6,000,000
    Carrol = £35,000,000

    I can see where you are coming from.

    What is it £10 million? That probably includes the wages of all HM forces and Police (excluding overtime) who would be getting paid anyway. If spread across the population of the UK it would not be enough to reimburse those who bought a certain record:bandit:

    The government have said the cost is much less than £10million. That seems to be a figure plucked out of the air by the screaming spongers who have now determined it to be fact. Of course whatever the expense was it will be considered too much in their opinion as that money could have been better spent on helping them remain workshy.

    TBF the Guardian is to left wing, what the Mail is to right. Even if they did spend £10 million, when you think about it not every penny the Government spends is going to positively affect each individual in the UK and so as she was very popular with a fair spread of the population it's fair to say that there would be sufficient support there to agree to the expenditure. It is after all a democracy.

    Thanks for the evidence against it; one guy (who happens to have worked for Thatcher) says it is "much less" but won't give a number. Seems legit.

    Rep!

    Where does the £10million figure come from? Your certain about it so you must have details of the costs. I haven't stated a figure, all I said was the government have said it is less than the £10million which has been published by the Guardian and a bunch of spongers. Doesn't it make more sense to moan about the cost of the funeral when you actually have some figures to moan about? Personally I don't have an issue with the cost of it and I'm not a Thatcherite. She certainly did more for this country than people who just sit around moaning about how unfair it is that the state doesn't spend even more money on them.

    Did you moan as much about the cost of Bliar's illegal war?

    Rep!

    Who are these strawmen you like to invoke to make it seem like you have a point?

    And yes I moaned about the cost of the war. The devastating cuts to UK science funding could have been covered by the hundreds of cruise missiles fired at Iraq.

  12. I just hope the rumoured cost includes to potential £2.3m in expenses for MP's <doh>

    800 military service personnel, equipment and logistics, unknown number of police and any working politicians attending, massive shindigs afterwards at the tax payers expense, and all the other myriad of costs that go with all of this, £10m sounds about right.

    The costs would have run up almost that much before the actually funeral took place.

    The **** takes from the hard pressed from beyond the grave.

    So a tiny minority of people who cost the state a fraction of the money stolen by MPs in the expenses scandal but who they use to deflect blame?

    Members of HM Forces and those Police not on overtime would have to be paid anyway and so whether they were there or elsewhere it's not entirely fair to attribute that cost to the funeral.

    Anyway didn't Blair and Brown plan for this funeral?

  20. I don't think it really matters who planned it <ok>
