Bollocks you were robbed, close game and we nicked it.

****ed up your treble too, job done.

Now 1976, we were definitely robbed. Stokes was well offside!!

That 200 lead is looking very much on. Majestic.

I'm going to be totally honest. We were without doubt the better team.

Regarding cricket, see my post on your board <ok>

    nah :p

....... and you were such sore losers, even when the united fans sang "liverpool, liverpool" when your team came to the united fans on the the lap around the pitch.

then it all kicked off in the charity shield match ....... that to me is the catylist for what is the source of the modern day rivalry of the clubs!

You may well be right tunns. I wasn't a great admirer of united prior to that, but that's when it really kicked in for me - the treble gone <doh>

The rivalry was there before 77, not helped by the Anfield's OTT response to united's promotion from the old 2nd division by building a huge fence to pen the red army in the annie rd end. unite had being the darlings of british fooball for decades, lfc were in there ascendence, united still had the biggest set of supporters in the land home & away. It was and always will be a pissing competition!

rivalry it was but not to the extent following that final and the aftermath. there is not a snowball's chance united fans would applaud your mob, the way they did, from 77/78. Liverpool were Euro champs and united fans still swaggered around the place like they owned it.

30 odd years later LFC live off the past ..... and United still swagger around like we own the gaff! :)

I've rarely felt so dreadful after a football match. I had a fight with someone when I got back to university. Really not like me at all <yikes>

    And here's the song, later to be repeated in 1985;

"It was on a famous Saturday in the month of May,
I saw a bunch of scousers walking up the Wembley way,
They sang; 'we're going to win the treble, we're going to win the cup',
It was on that famous Saturday United ****ed it up........

    United, United, United, United"

Worth point out that article also included the lines:

"Ashley Cole could even hand over his air rifle to the authorities without fear of sanction."
"There will be no fears about Chelsea’s captain puffing out his cheeks and telling the QPR keeper that he is a ‘cheeky fat ****’. Or clasping his hand across Anton Ferdinand’s face, simulating that the QPR defender has bad breath."
"When Mario Balotelli is substituted 55 minutes into a routine 3-0 Premier League win over Sunderland, he will already have Mancini’s decision figured out.
He will nod his head in agreement, salute the supporters and shake hands with players from his team and the opposition as he walks off."

Fairly obvious it's pretty tongue in cheek. And the fact he follows the Suarez comment up with:

"In future, when Martin Tyler screams ‘Suarez goes down in the box’ on a Sunday afternoon, it will be followed by the shrill of the referee’s whistle. Penalty."

implies he believes Suarez is being harshly treated due to this reputation. Isn't that what most Liverpool fans are also arguing?

I believe he's implying that if the FA declared an amnesty on football's ills Suarez wouldn't be diving, therefore it would be a penalty. We have obviously interpreted the piece differently but whatever your interpretation of the piece I think its obvious its not a positive one on any of the people mentioned and he certainly seems to be against Suarez' diving going by that piece as he is classing it with all of those other negative things like John Terry's abuse, Rio's choc ice tweet etc <ok>

I thought the idea was if they declared an amnesty past behaviour would be forgotten, so each future incident would be judged on its merits without prejudice? So if Suarez went down, dive or not, the ref would give a penalty cos they wouldn't look at Suarez and think "He always dives".

Either way, it's true that it's not particularly positive, but it is definitely very tongue in cheek. Not sure you could use that as proof of hypocrisy - it's perfectly plausible that if he had written the same article a month later he would have substituted Bale for Suarez.

  17. Bale is the worst offender in the Premier League for diving in terms of picking up yellow cards, he got booked three games in a row for it! Yet, he doesn't get anywhere near as much attention as Suarez got. Is it because one is British and the other isn't or is it because one has handled a ball to stop a goal in a world cup semi-final, been banned for biting an opposing player and banned for making racial comments whereas the other hasn't? It is clearly past behaviour and no matter what people say, what the rules say or how any authority body tries to implement any impending new rules, the referee will always see which player it is and the referee's decision will always be influenced by player reputation.

(I've not read back beyond this post so if I have got the wrong end of the stick I apologise <ok>)
