Never in my life have I ever seen someone say Hyypia was better than Rio. I dont even think SKD believes it tbh.

rio was considered by his fellow pros as one of the worlds very best defenders. Hyypia was considered one of the better PL defenders but never in that world class bracket.

5 x pl team of the year and 1 time world team of the year.

hyypia won some awards in finland.

Fellow professionals are better placed to make such judgements really.

No, he was world class. Juts like Vidic is world class.

Just because hes english doesnt make him overrated, judge them on club football rather than international as everyone does with English players ( and not others for some reason ).

Rios record as part of the United team and as an individual speaks for itself.

At one time we had one of the best defences in history and Rio was apart of that record breaking defence.

Saying Rio wasnt world class is like me saying Gerrard was never world class. Its based only on his England performances. Cant stand Gerrard but for Liverpool he was a world class player, game changer and match winner. Rio was a game saver for us.

Not saying English players are over rated in some kind of misguided media/fan arrogance. Just a natural wish to claim we too have "world class" players. To suggest its a mistake to look at international performance as an indicator is silly though. That has to be part of the equation when deciding if a player is "world class". Yes there are exceptions; Messi for example but few.

But I did say he was a very good player.....
