Are Spain really that good or are other national sides just quite bad these days?

I mean besides the final spain were boring all through Euro 2012 and have been since 2008 when they were actually very entertaining.

Compared with other great sides, do they have that edge, that spark about them that just cements a team as one of the best. I personally think they are very mechanical, very one dimensional and I think they are almost scared to go all out as it will mean they are left open to counter attacks. Of course their success means its done them no harm at all but now that they are considered the cream of world football its made the game worse for those that matter the most, fans.

Barcelona have shown its possible to pass pass pass and still be entertaining aswell as successful. Obviously having a Messi does help but Spain have some top class players who could at least do half the job of Messi.

So compared with the the great sides of Brazil, France, Germany, Italy, Holland........ where are Spain. It seemed in the past while these teams were at one point the undisputed best side on earth they had clubs consistently pushing them to improve or fall away. I don't see any other team close to Spain. Germany are the closest and there still not quite there. Everyone seems to be in transition. This Spain side in the 90s or early 2000's might not of had it so easy with France and Brazil both having capable teams.

Or are they just so good they make us all look rubbish?

It's a great system, they move the ball so quickly that you can't close them down. In theory you could take out Xavi and Iniesta and they would still do well but it's those players that take the system to another level. They have been boring in this tournament but were brilliant in the final.

Boring my ass, a joy to be able to watch a team play that well together. The technique, tactics, positioning, work rate, pressing, everything that they have done to evolve the game.

Boring is Stoke hoofing the ball, watching the world's best ping a ball about at an incredible accuracy rate is top stuff. <ok>

I'm a fan of the style of play but they were terrible to watch at times in the Euros, the final was a reminder of how good the system and this team are. In the earlier rounds there seemed no purpose to the play.

exciting is 2 teams playing football. Anything else is boring. Hoofball or tedius tippy tappy ****e.

The game is intended to entertain not bore, Spain are most certainly boring as anything repeated over and over tends to be.

Ah but we did have our equals for most of our success. Teams who forced us to improve and better ourselves. No doubt for many it was boring but when you can see the best team around get spanked 6-3, 5-0, 5-1, 4-1 once in a while it reminds you that there is a reason to carry on.

Plus since 2008 theres been 2 other title winners, a number of CL winners, we haven't won an FA Cup and only one League Cup.

Anyway, do they compare with the other great teams? I dont think they do. Mainly because everyone else is rubbish. I mean Holland, Italy, Portugal, Italy, Germany..... europes best offering...... eventually Germany will be but by then the Spanish era may be over anyway.

Brazil, I mean theres a decent chance they will win the WC in their own country but are they near spain atm?

    Argentina?

Looks like its down to england to show the spanish how its done properly.......... oh, thats right, we dont even like keeping hold of the ball. The terror of making 3 passes in a row.

For me I would love to see a purist football team who had everything. Great passing ability, pace, direct intentional play with purpose. Once in a while if they went old school and did a counter or 2 aswell in the last minute.

But no, ****s (spain) just tippy tap it about in pretty lickle triangles of delightful....zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

It may cost me an arm and a leg, but I'm so proud of her, I don't care <ok>

Cheers baz. I know that the standard of education in this country is probably not what it was 20 or 30 years ago, but a first is a first and required a huge amount of effort and commitment.
