The league cup is not better than 1st, 2nd, 3rd or 4th in the league.

 

And the ball did not cross the line

The ball was about a centimetre short of crossing the line, which means of course no goal. We've seen them given (very recently) though.
It was the same linesman who failed to spot Danny Simpson's handball and Papiss Cisse's being 4 yards offside, so as soon as the camera panned to him I shat myself.
I thought it was quite a poor game all in all. While we were rubbish for 60 minutes, Chelsea hardly exploited it. Ok, they got 2 goals, but they were essentially out of nothing. Same with ours, really.
The only interesting period was the last 20 minutes.

 

Why is it suddenly official now we haven't won the FA Cup? Surely it was always the case?

Well you lot were telling us that 2 cups is better than 2nd. No mention of the league cup being better than 2nd so I assumed it was official.

Simple really, its what you guys have been saying for ages, just assumed its now official.

 

'You lot', 'you guys' - you're preaching to the converted, UIR. I said nothing of the sort.

What I will say is the league cup is better than 3rd or 4th if you end up getting knocked out in the qualifying rounds before you even get to the CL.

 

Thats if, when was the last time an English club got knocked out in qualifying for the CL?

Don't know. It was just an 'if'. Coming 4th in your group isn't much better, although I suppose it brings in a bit of cash.

 

Back to the chelsea fans putting stickers up about heysal. Seems they did it because the Liverpool chairman at the time blamed chelsea fans for the tragedy.

Pretty much agree. All three goals came from defensive errors - Spearing x2 and Enrique, with a bit of Skrtel and Reina for Chelsea's, and Bosingwa for yours. Hardly a classic game, but it was exciting for the last 20 mins even if the quality was slacking.

Wouldn't agree that LC > 3rd or 4th. Imo:

League title > 2nd with a title challenge > FA Cup > 2nd, 3rd or 4th with no chance of the title > League Cup > 5th place and below

Everyone remembers Everton qualifying for the CL in 2005 even tho' they dropped out in the qualifying rounds. I couldn't even guess the name of the League Cup winners that year. In fact, about the only LC winners I remember who weren't Utd were Liverpool this year, Brum last year, Villa in 1994 (beat us in the final), and Liverpool in 2001 (plastic treble) and 2003 (beat us in the final).

What I meant was it doesn't really go down in history quite as well as 'we won the league cup'. Even though it's a poor competition, there's still a marker there. 'We qualified for the CL' doesn't have the same ring to it. In fact, is getting knocked out in qualifying technically 'getting in' the CL?

3rd and 4th + full qualification > League Cup, obviously.

He was twice as good as the rest of your squad combined. In 25 minutes he affected the game more than the rest did. He basically gave a big **** you to Mr Ken as he ****ed up bigtime by playing wide with no ****ing striker.
