The team gave everything... we just needed a little bit of luck... couldn't have asked more from the player..."
Yup. "As I say, the players were terrific, okay. The way we hit them on the counter attack was excellent, okay, but we just lacked at wee bit of penetration and the ability to defend, okay".
We have to wonder whether Rodgers is s**t scared of upsetting his players by his interviews. Even when the performance is well below par, he says: I couldn't have asked for more. Blah blah" the fans think he is not getting it. People who support him believe he says something different behind closed doors. What's the problem in being honest? When the performance us s**t it is reassuring to see that the manager can see it and will do his best to improve things.
Agreed. If he came out and said "we were disappointing, I wasn't happy with how we defended as a unit, and its something we will be working on in the training ground" then fine, you can accept that as long as there are signs of improvement afterwards. We have stopped leaking as many goals, but the quality of the defending itself is still woeful. Riddled with errors. You have to wonder what the defensive coach is up to. Its been pony for 2 years now.
Massive week this, massive. We need two wins, anything less and its good bye season and possibly Rodgers? We could be out of the champions league and 10 points behind utd. I think we can do it tomorrow, although it will be a matter of scraping through I think and a dull affair.
I think he'll say something like 'we showed great character, Gerrard and Johnson were world class, the youngsters are inexperienced and let us down. Mario wasn't playing but he was rubbish and could have done more to win the game.'
We'd don't have one. Which is half the problem. Rodgers doesn't feel the need for one. Quite frankly I think our coaches are sub standard too
Big game for the club and for Rodgers, if we lose this then lose to the Mancs he's gone. Win both and we might be going in the right direction.
Well f** me sideways! We can't defend and we don't have a defensive coach. I think we've identified a problem!
Attack Attack Attack. Basel will most likely play defensive so we should go all out attack as we did at the Bernabau. Start with Can and Borini.
Pardon? The game where we sat back, concentrated on nullifying their attack and hitting them on the counter, resulting in us having four shots all game, only one of which was on target?
I may have worded it a little differently than it was in my head. I meant the way we started in Madrid until they scored. P.S. We had 4 shots? Wow, that's usually 4 more than usual
<laughY yeah, I can remember Lallana's turn and shot, but I'm struggling to remember the other three...
look..... its not about madrid or whatever.... this is about playing basel. we have to just play with intensity, play on the front foot and just rock the place. Our best chance is to queiten them early and have them alomost give up.... what we did v ludo was form 60 mins to sit back... back and back and encourage them... we need to get 2 clear goals by half time, ride out the inevitable surge after half time then sit up and not just defend.
He clearly meant the way we started the game. We didn't sit back until they scored their second goal, at that point we had given up.
The second goal in their 1-0 win? I'm guessing you both mean the Anfield game. Fair enough; I forgot that we started that game somewhat brighter (didn't get to see that one).
