Am I the only one that thinks it was a red, completely unnecessary arm out and swinging at the player.
He definitely touched him but that was a piss poor sending off. You see the same bollox year in year out from European refs. If there's one player you didn't want off was Markovic. He looked like doing something. Although tbf I'm not sure you would have scored/won the game even with him on.
Yes considering he didn't really touch him. If he's swung and just caught him with his arm, maybe... but with a finger nail no. Need to ****ing man up and get on with it. Wish football would go back to the 80's where contact was allowed.
Markovic deserved it. I love him and hope he has a career at Liverpool but to be honest he looked to swing his arm. Had the defender been a foot closer he'd have connected with his face and no one would be debating the red. It's ended our attacking period and I doubt Markovic will get many more opportunities in a red shirt because of it. Stupid stupid stupid. I haven't seen the replay more than once or twice but unless he was just trying to do the typical "muscle past the defender with the ball" and misjudged his timing, no reason to do that. I doubt we'd go through anyway but still.
No. He was f**ing dumb to do it right if front of the ref. The ref has sent him off for swinging it in the first place, not for how hard he made contact. Even f**ing dumber, as he was Pools best player in only 15mins. What might he of done for 45?
Yeah, that's my grind. We've been more spirited in the second half, but I still think they looked more likely to score another than we looked to score at all, even before the sending off. Ref is abysmal though - given the noise from the basel fans compared to ours, I'd say he was playing to the home crowd.
