Spain were crying out for a striker to run behind those defenders the entire game, it's a shame that they decided to bring on Torres instead of a striker.

All im thinking is hopefully Downing doesn't start, if Chamberlain starts ahead of Downing then england have more chances of getting a result against France. Downing is ****

    alright lads?

wanted to share a thought, will put it here instead of starting another thread.

if england do well in the qualifiers and the young/welbeck partnership gets goals, would you automatically put rooney back in?

for me, this is the england way (see lamps/gerrard).

I'm not an England fan but from an outsider's point of view it will depend on these 2 games, if they play well then i think Roy Hodgson will stick with them, if one of them gets injured then he has to start form them.

i get what you mean, it would be hard to drop one of them if they are scoring goals but at the same time it will also be hard to have a world class striker and imo England's best player on the bench too. it will be a hard decision for the manager.

Rooney will play from the third match onwards regardless, along with Hart they are the only two world class players in the squad.

If they do well in the first two matches then Rooney will play deep with Welbeck up front and Young will move to the left wing.

If Welbeck plays badly and the left winger performs well (Ox or Downing), then I guess they might keep the same team and just replace Danny with Rooney, but I think the first option is way more likely.

yeah the first option is likely but if ox starts the two first games and has good games and then maybe the second option but if downing plays then no way 2nd option

im just soo glad Downing ain't starting today.

Ox is better option then him. i can't believe Downing actually even got into the squad, even Joe Cole and Adam Johnson is a better option then him.

The issue has never been rooney under performing, its the fact he never ever gets any quality service and as he often leads the line alone how the **** is he meant to do anything if hes got pure **** around him?

Stick Rooney in behind Welbeck, shoot john terry in the face with a shotgun and we will be ok.

    Thats my point.

Playing him up top with nobody supplying him never worked.

Drop him back behind welbeck so we have a player who can make something happen behind a player who can score goals.
