I've never understood why some think late goals are lucky. Deflected goals, own goals, wrongly awarded goals, goals given that come from offsides etc. are all lucky, but why is a late goal any luckier than a first minute goal?

It really depends on the goal. Injury time will likely have more goalmouth scrambles and the like which will lead to scrappy deflections, dodgy handballs etc. Late goals aren't lucky per sé, but the average late goal is probably luckier than the average goal in the first 85 mins or so.

Barton's goal for us at Wolves was lucky as it bobbled in despite him mis-hitting it a bit, much like your second against Blackburn had a huge slice of luck.

What's for certain is that over the course of a season you get what you deserve, and Norwich did.

Not as annoying as they were for Cardiff! ;)

Watford_R, agree with all of that. I reckon our Blackburn goal was almost the very definition of a lucky goal!

All games have a first minute, only some have a 96th minute. We've all been watching games when the assistant ref has put up 2/3/5/10/whatever minutes and thought - where's he got that from? A 3 instead of a 4 in any one of many games for Norwich last season, and Swansea would have been second. That's why it could be thought of being lucky.

I guess We can all say if blah had happened then blah wouldn't have happened, but the number of times I left a football ground last year and 90% of the results were in, and i thought good, Norwich are drawing/losing then i got home and you'd won/drawn. Nothing personal - just you were close rivals.

Maybe its just annoying not lucky :)

If we get a 99th minute winner today however - please refer to my earlier point about good teams playing to the end <ale>

I guess if we boil it right down, a match starts with a blast of the whistle, and ends with a blast of the whistle. Any second in between is a good time to score!
