Used to love tying the door knockers together on terraced houses. Ring both bells and watch the fun from a safe distance. :)

We just called it 'knock door run' which is pretty explanatory of the game... where does the ginger come from?

I wish I knew, I was young I couldn't be arsed to find out. There were lots of phrases at the time I didn't question their etymology...

    I'm gonna duff you up!

The origin of knock down ginger came from council estates because all the doors were stained a ginger colour, hence knock down ginger.

Where I come from it was called "knock a door run away" which seemed fair and obvious, the other name (used equally) was "black and white rabbit", never got the meaning of that one.

It was a great game either way. We always used to target the same ones just to ratchet up the frustration.

Back in the day kids at school could fck off out for lunch. One old fellas had a dog that used to go berserk whenever someone knocked the door. Naturally he became the primary target and it was always fun hiding and watching him come out f'ing and blinding... until he figured out which school we were at and we were hauled up to the head teacher's office <laugh>

We called it knocky nine doors. The best one was when we got some fishing wire as it was invisible in the dark and tied it to the door knocker. Then we could stand around the corner and knock. It confused the **** out of people, as soon as they closed the door we would rap on their door again.

Done the **** wrapped up in paper and set on fire trick a few times too.
