I don't understand how it works out as a million a month. Unless we intend to sign him on a 1 year deal which I very much doubt.
If its a 5 year deal we want him on, it works out as about 58k a week. Which is still high, but not exactly breaking the bank.

Which is why I think we should sell Michu (frees up huge wages) and get a quality player at the top of his game. Him and Montero on the flanks with Ki, Gylfi, Jack and Jonjo in midfield would be as strong as any in the leagues with Routs and Dyer/Emnes/Barrow more than useful subs.

    You Jack Bas Dost! :smiley-finger007:

(Michu's wage would be no where near that of several other at the club this season - only his injury and Monk not getting a monk on that will stop him being deadly & a better option than Gylfi - who IMHO owes us a few consistent performances - and worth half a dozen Jonjos - 25 games 2 goals 3 assists 45 shots just 12 on target!!!)

If Michu was still any good Napoli would want to keep him. Michu is the one who acted like a child and threw his toys out. Why the dig at Monk?

    Seriously?

Created the conditions or pushed out:-
    Michu
    deGuzman
    Vorm
    Pablo
    Canas
    Chico
    Poz
    Davies
(And would have sold Wilf in the summer if a formal offer had been received - hence the haste in bringing Gomis in on a pretty daft contract.)

    Spot the link?

My shopping list for next season:

A backup goalkeeper - Tremmel is pretty old now, maybe sign a youngster to learn from Fab.
A starting Left back - Taylor is doing ok but is not up to the standard of the rest of the team.
A starting right winger - Dyer has lost it, completely imo. We need to spend a few bob on a winger that can come in and make the sort of impact Montero has.
A potentially starting striker - Who knows if Gomis can keep up his form. We need to bring in someone to challenge him for his place. Mitrovic would be ideal.

Midfield we are looking solid. We have Cork, Ki, Shelvey and Sig to fight out for them places (plus maybe Michu)
Central defence we are also covered for. However next season I would like to see Amat get more games in place of Williams. Thats not a slight on Williams at all, but hes not getting any younger and it will be better all around if Amat can comfortably slot in when Williams is starting to go passed it.
I would also say that our right back position is covered. Naughton to start with Jazz as back up. Rangel unfortunately is about at that stage where his career is on the close. Maybe a role in coaching, hes got the credentials for it.

All in all this will probably cost us something in the region of 20 million. 10m on a striker, 6m on a winger, 3m on a left back and 1 or 2m on a young goalkeeper. But with the big money coming into play the following season, its something that we absolutely must invest in.

    Bob, in my view,

Siggy is an upgrade on the Michu of last season
Ki is an upgrade on De Guzman, who was never our player
Fabianski is an upgrade on the Vorm of the last two seasons
Montero is as good as Pablo ( and equally injury prone<laugh>)
    Cork is better than Canas
Fernandez is better than Chico, certainly more "reliable"
Grimes may turn out to be better than Poz, but too early to judge
Davies, for me, is better than Taylor

Would mostly agree and we have different opinions ...

Siggy is an upgrade on the Michu of last season (but is he an upgrade on what Michu would be if he came back ... no idea, but nor does anyone else. Better than Michu in season 1, well no. But that doesn't mean Siggy is unwanted or that Monk hasn't revitalised a tired player. We have a few players in that position that are accommodated but not necessarily performing well.)
Ki is an upgrade on De Guzman, who was never our player (I'm not sure I'd go as far as agreeing that Ki is better ... on a par maybe and their goal strike rate is almost identical. What I do know is Ki was not performing in his first season with us and disrespected the manager and club.)
Fabianski is an upgrade on the Vorm of the last two seasons (no doubt)
Montero is as good as Pablo ( and equally injury prone<laugh>) (They are similar in so many ways - Jeff a much trickier wing player but doesn't offer much else - so far - Pablo slightly more rounded but less dynamic)
Cork is better than Canas (True - especially after Laudrup left when he seemed to take to th field in order to take the p....)
Fernandez is better than Chico, certainly more "reliable" (I think they are different players Fed is more conservative but I'm not convinced he is 'overall' better than Chico. That said I really liked Chico as he brought flair and very good footballing skills to the back four. In terms of penalty area blunders which are fairly inevitable given the amount of defending we do they are on a par. It's noticeable that Fernandez has been dropped from the Argentina squad.)
Grimes may turn out to be better than Poz, but too early to judge (Poz was always good at prizing open tight defences but not a lot elsewhere - another player very different to Grimes & slightly older. I hope Grimes will be an improvement.)
Davies, for me, is better than Taylor (by some distance & did not want to leave.)

The point I was making was less to do with quality of players (we all have opinions) but the dismissive nature some people have of Michu and the lies being passed as truth regarding his temperament & request to leave.

    Serious talk about
    Ki - Arsenal
    Ash - Man City!
    Fab - Roma (again)
    &
Fed - back to Italy or Spain following his axing from the Argentinian side.

Ki I can see going but not sure about the others although Fed could be in a mood to regain his international place and it wan't happen in Swansea.
Ash - a season or 2 too old for top 4 move
Fab - not after his first year

Ki to Arsenal? I don't think so! Ramsey, Ozil, Coquelin etc and others they are being linked with.

Great response Bob - yeah, we will and should have different opinions. No point having a forum if we all thought the same! <cheers>

Plus there's heavy rumours that Vidal has already signed for them.

Well arsenal are short of quality midfielders!!!

    Ramsey
    Wilshere
    Ozil
    Sanchez
    Ox
    Walcott
    Rosicky
    Flamini
    Coquelin
    Arteta? Is he still there?

I know wenger likes to sign a rediculous number of midfielders....but come on ki is getting no where near the starting 11....neither would 99% of other midfielders

    Edit: lol even forgot Carzola!

According to a report in Voetbal International, Swansea City are closing in on the signing of Benfica winger Ola John, with a five-year deal agreed.

It is stated that negotiations between the two clubs are in the final stages, and John’s agent is quoted in the same article commenting on the impending transfer.

“It was always a dream of Ola to ever play in the Premier League,” he said. “There was interest from other clubs in the Premier League, but Ola had the best feeling about Swansea City.”

There is no reference to a transfer fee that Swansea have paid, but the young Dutch international is said to have agreed a five-year deal at the Liberty Stadium.

A 23-year-old winger, John moved to Portugal’s Benfica in 2012, signing from Eredivisie side FC Twente. During his time at the club, he has spent a loan spell with Hamburg in Germany, and has shown himself to be a great talent, with some consistency issues.

He ha made 85 appearances for Benfica, scoring eight goals and registering 15 assists, impressing with his strong wing-play. However, he is known to lack an end product, and is seen as being fairly wasteful with the ball.

This term, he has made 26 appearances in the league, but has only started nine games. It is clear that he is not in favour under head coach Jorge Jesus, and his lack of playing time is clearly affecting his development.

However, at Swansea he is likely to be given a much more consistent run of first-team football, which is sure to help him. If able to develop in the manner many expected of him, the Swans have just completed an absolutely fantastic piece of transfer business, ahead of their Premier League rivals.

Do you think John will be a success at Swansea?
