But he ran his contract down and was at a decent club. This player and his history doesn't excite me at all.

 

I'm sure we were linked with him in January also....would make sense that we did a Gomis and allowed him to run his contract down, but if that was the case why hasn't he signed already.

I've never seen him play but 100+ games for Hamburg in the Bundesliga and a good showing in the Copa America 2011 would indicate that he is competent....a defensive midfielder who can also plug a hole at either right-back or centre-half is exactly what I want so on balance I'd be pleased if he signed as a back-up utility player.

Just because a player never performed for a club does not mean he wont be a star player for another. we have had plenty of good player for us who moved on and were crap for other teams. Jase the ace for one is a prime example and there are countless others from other teams as well. When we or any other club brings in a player then that player has something that the scouts have seen that could be an asset to the club. sometimes it don't happen but until that player who the club has brought in has enough time to prove he is not the right player then we should instead of moaning why have we got him and back the clubs judgement on what they know about the player that we don't and only see from what that player was like at his last club.
