I think Alonso only ran new PU in practice 1 & 2. They changed back to old spec same as Buttons for today and tomorrow.
Talking of which, earlier I enjoyed Grosjean telling us how he was looking forward to the challenge of driving for the 'Aas team. We will have fun with this next year.
He has just said he was held up in Traffic , by the time he had a clear run , his rear tyres were shot .
Jordan was talking about red bull grovelling back to Renault. And when Horner was asked about it he said Eddie was talking out of his arse as usual.
Anyway. Good to see Rosberg actually take pole on merit. Obviously got more from practice than Lewis.
I like Eddie , but yes , sometimes he talks about things as if they are FACT . Hulk going to Ferrari ( IIRC ) and now VW buying RBR . I agree nobody could have for seen the disaster that they now face , but maybe he should wait in future ?
I do like Eddie, he brings amusement to the show. OK so he does overstate things sometimes but it's better than waiting till the story is public knowledge. He did seem to be making Horner squirm a bit which was funny. Horner must be so p i $ $ e d off at the number of times he gets asked about next years engines.
Verstappen also had a spin in that session, not under braking or traction, he just lost it mid corner. Sainz's incident looked pretty similar in how it started, maybe just inherent oversteer in the Toro Rosso how they've set it up this weekend. I'm a little surprised he intends to race. He'll be less than 100% for sure (and will probably be even sorer in the morning), the car will be a complete rebuild, he's had limited running already and he'll have to start from the pitlane. It will be a minor miracle if he scores a point.
But racers race because they want to race; not because they want to score points. Whether or not he achieves a place on the grid later today, Sainz's sentiments are exactly what I'd expect from any true racer. Best of luck to him…
