Could he have lost consciousness somehow before he crashed? Seems odd that he'd run down the wall like that.
No camera footage. Braking problem seems a major influence. No sign of lockups, and went all the way into the techpro barriers. Haven't even seen him active since the incident. Serious stuff.
In the event of total brake failure might he have deliberately run the car along the wall to try and slow it down?
It's not something I'd try. Presumably that's the end of his weekend, can't see him being cleared to qualify. Hope it's nothing too severe.
I do remember seeing an incident a long time ago where a driver did this, can't remember who now which doesn't help! Lost brakes totally, ran the car along a wall on their left which tore off the wheels on that side but did scrub off a lot of speed. They then slid across the track into a gravel trap at relatively low speed before flipping upside down. Nasty incident but they did say afterwards that running along the wall was deliberate to scrub off the speed. Whether Sainz had the time to do this here is another matter though.
Lets destroy classic tracks with gravel traps to equally punish a driver and instead make more **** street tracks with concrete walls and miles of pointless tarmac run off to damage a driver.
Coulthard has a point to be honest, maybe Carlos tried turning with DRS open, before he started breaking. A case of pushing too much? *Still doesn't take away from how much I hate street tracks.
I think he just lost it under braking myself from the limited footage I've seen. It's not a straight line braking point and IF he did have his DRS open that might be enough unsettle the rear end. Once he's hit the wall he's a passenger anyway. I agree with the run offs being dangerous and you can see that from how deep the car went into the barriers, a gravel trap would have slowed that down. It's obvious that the barrier isnt deep enough as well, that car should not be able to hit the Armco.
Was he suggesting Mercedes were not allowing there drivers to race and maintaining a gap and that's why he isn't giving them the TV coverage
