Atheism is just as much of a belief system than any religion. I think what a lot of people probably are, are Agnostic which leave open the possibility that there may or may not be a God. But Atheism is something more absolute.

I'm a strong atheist. You missed out the bit that people walking on water and coming back to life after being dead for however many days. That is just plain stupid, I don't understand how a grown man can believe that nonsense.

Believing in god, really is no different to believing in Santa Claus and the Tooth Fairy. It's the 21st century ffs. The vast majority of troubles across the world have been in the name of religion. It should be outlawed right around the globe so mankind can rid us of this nonsense and progress to our next level.

A refusal to accept the existence of a mythical being of which there is zero proof of, isn't a belief system it's a refusal to belief in something when there is no proof. I don't believe in the existence of fairies or Santa Claus for exactly the same reason

 

However unreliable it may be there's more proof of God than proof he doesn't exist.

I agree in principal, but on a technical point unless you can disprove the existence of God, then you have to conclude that it’s a belief that one doesn’t exist.

No, if you're making a positive assertion i.e. X exists, then you have to be able to prove it. A failure to do so consigns it to nothing more than a belief, but someone refusing to accept it, isn't a belief system, it's a fact until proven otherwise

 

I don’t believe that people walked on water or came back from the dead or any of the other ‘miracles’ in the bible. But as I’ve said, and it’s a technicality, but unless you can 100% disprove the existence of God, then you have to, however small, entertain the possibility that you might be wrong and one does exist.

On a separate issue, I would separate Religion from Spirituality. Religion for me is doctrine that is used as a political tool to suppress people, tell them how to thinks and keep them in line. It’s also he root cause of much of the worlds problems. You do not need religion to have a sound moral compass or understand the difference between good and bad. And you do not need religion to access your own spirituality.

how can you prove santa doesn't exist? He might not be delivering presents, just a technicality but for all you know he could be buried deep inside the arctic where no one has seen him or he might have died a while back or he's decided all kids are just naughty and do not deserve presents?
