Stick' Do you have any info today regard the horse? Your comment earlier would usually be enough to warrant investing a little and were he 9-4 I would have done so without thinking. My concern is that he is just too big at 8-1 to be the best in the yard, was that info from a while ago? do you know if there has been any setback etc. Basically do you know why he is not shorter? Appreciate your passing on anyway.
Sorry for the last reply.... Anyway, here is what I know. Yard visit on the day Foxtrot Knight ran at Goodwood... We asked Olly which horses of his were ones to follow (we did this before and he gave Heisman) and he mentioned that the three year olds were well, but that he thought Bellajeu would be the one to follow from the juveniles. I thought little about it at the time. We then walked through the stables, and I was having a chat with Shackled N Drawn, when Hetta came in. We had a chat about him and how he was the one who had shown the most on the racecourse, and that they were having him looked at that day by the vets. In the box opposite was a Montjeu filly, who had poked her head out... Hetta went across and gave her a pat and stated that she was a very nice filly who was showing so much potential and was going to be seen out over 6 furlongs. I stated that I was shocked that she was going to be quick enough on breeding, but Hetta stated that she was quick and very good. The fact she is in the first colours and how well regarded she is makes me tempted to spend a few quid on her tonight.
The fav in that 7.00pm Newbury race (Crystal Malt) is currently 11/4 with Stan James, and can be laid at 3.5 on BF, if anyone's interested.
It looks a very tricky race with most of the better trainers represented, It would normally be one to either take a view from the market or leave alone but I have had a small bet on Bellajeu due to Sticks/ Nass's remarks as the price means you can keep stakes low anyway. If taking the market into consideration I would back the Henry Candy horse Goldcrest, but would actually leave the race alone as no real pointers to go on.
No I had a small on Bellajeu, who I must say I felt ran very well as she travelled readily before getting outpaced when it quickened up, as she would be expected to do over that distance, clearly going to be decent enough however over further, thanks for passing it on anyway Stick/Nass. The winner was very impressive actually and clearly mor eto come as she had the race put to bed with a furlong to go.
My only bet for the evening now is in the last on Fastnet Red at 11-2. I am always wary of horses in handicaps who have won first time out as I always feel that instinctively the handicappers act with caution as not wanting to look lenient later on if the horse scoots in again, and for this reason I feel the fav can be taken on. Fastnet has never looked happy on softer going and I am taking a punt that the firmer ground and a potentially lenient bottom weight this evening will see him come home in front.
7:35 Newbury - John Joiner 66/1 just a small speculative ew. Yard not doing too badly to say they don't have that many runners so could be worth a chance at the price
Sorry but I haven't been around to check in and respond. The pedigree is all about stamina and frankly I was surprised they started her off over six. As you say she travelled like a dream before getting outpaced. They hold her in very high regard and all the yards horses have come on for the run. Expect her to be stepped up in trip next time and prove her worth. A filly to have in bold in your notebooks!
