Swords: The effects of the war are forgotten, maybe, but, when your Grandparents were actually involved you get a different understanding than if they were not. My Nan is still alive and when I went to berlin to work she didn't speak to me for months! Anti Israel, anti Palestine? Wtf they are as bad as each other.
Great how these threads evolve......started off about M'Vila....went through what are acceptable names for certain races...through Swedish Nazis...arriving at Israel/Palestine. Truly remarkable and somewhat enjoyable
If anything, that proves that people that were involved in the war are totally out of step. No disrespect to your Nan, mate!
Not too sure there Swords! The bible says about forgiveness bla, bla, bla, BUT you could never imagine what she (and my Grandfather) went through. It was still relevant for her (even though it was not completely understood on my part).
Quite true mate. But things have to be put to bed. We can't blame current generations for what their fathers/ancestors did. Its the same in Northern Ireland. They're still very bitter up there but hopefully the young generations will be able to move on (although the recent flag riots are very disappointing). Perhaps the Swedes or the Swiss are in a good position to judge stuff precisely because of their neutrality? Its no coincidence that a lot of international peace accords and treaty's are held in modern day Switzerland. People trust them to be fair and balanced. I'm not saying I'm right here. I could be totally and completely wrong. I'm just chucking it out there!
My Gramps was the same about the Japanese. Absolutely hated them till his dieing day. Guess if you see the terrible things he saw done to his mates it gets you like that.
I agree with you, absolutely. That was the point of my Israel/Palestine remark. Highlighted even more with the NI problem (Sham 69 - fukcing end it, you're all losers). The Swiss are better negotiators because the Swedes supported Hitler. Churchill wanted to bomb the Swedish factories supplying the 3R!
Gotta go back to the start to read this whole thread and figure out how we got from M'Vila to Churchill bombing Sweeden..truely amazing !
I started to write 'I wouldn't bother' but then then again, no, it is probably very interesting. Enjoy the read, but I am going to bed. Good night!
Sorry when interrupting ... but German television said that Holtby might leave for Tottenham during winter window. Could mean we get M'bia ...
I'm actually related to Field Marshall Montgomery. Having read up on him though, it seems like he was a right honourable c*nt.
