This has been on my bucket list literally from the day I found out about them aged 7/8. Cannot ****ing believe waking up this morning and finding out they were basically on my door step. Myself and mrs Red were going to Norway next year to hopefully see them. Apparently they are around tonight so will definitely keep off the pop…..

On my bucket list as well
Last significant birthday Mrs Ron offered to take me on a trip to see them, but no guarantee...
In the back garden and then to the next lane in the village where there's no light...grinning like an annoying twat looking at nature at its best

Suppose it's time to get a bucket next ;)

Front of my house is north, back is south…
You watch I’ll be sat in the wrong side lol
I was really surprised last night just how un-northern they were. Not for long like, but I’d been looking north and thinking I’d missed them, then looked up and here in Skidby they were literally overhead in an arc that went all the way from the western horizon and nearly to the eastern one.

Absolutely magical experience, though as many have said the camera view is better than the one with your naked eye.

Can anyone explain why sometimes you can’t see them with the naked eye, but can see them when you take a picture

I’ve only seen ‘em the once, though I did spend a couple of hours laid on the ground in a field doing so, but certainly with last night’s it wasn’t that you couldn’t see them at all. It was more that you could see a bit of a pink / red / green or whatever haze that earlier in the evening you might have mistaken for the setting sun shining off a cloud.

As it got darker they got more easily viewable with the naked eye, but even from 10ish you could see where to point your camera easily enough.

I think Zimozimo’s already answered why a camera ‘sees’ them better.

Absolutely amazing photos sir… I don’t get jealous but I’ll be honest, I’m pretty close… let’s just say I’m a bit envious lol
