I've been impressed with the way they've gone about it this year - and must say Nigel Pearson, who I always quite liked anyway, went up in my estimation with his interview post the madness at the Vic last May. It can't have been easy to be gracious in that situation.
I have to say Dan, the last couple of minutes of that game will remain my favourite football memory of all time! Nothing to do with who, what or why, simply the perfect illustration of Greavesy's famous quote that football is "A funny old game!"
Whilst I more than understand your rationale - you'll forgive me for it not being mine ... think mine might involve Colchester at Carrow Road once upon a time ....
... have had to hold my hands up on Nige - had severe doubts last season when he appeared incapable of managing us out of a disastrous (to promotion campaign) run of 17 games without a win - I didn't get why he persisted with some players whilst sending others out on loan - lots of things since come to light that provide some explanation for that and take my hat off to him for sticking to his guns ... there was method to his apparent madness and I won't be calling for his head next season even if we are plumb bottom all season - provided his teams go out and attempt to play the way they have this season - entertaining exciting football ... win, lose or draw ...
But I'm afraid that whatever style of football you will play next season, if you are in the relegation slots, others will call for Pearson's head.....it is the curse of the Premiership and oh so fickle fans.
Cynical yet realistic ... I can only speak for myself of course, but this is a group predominantly made up of younger players with a lot of potential and we have been handsomely enertained this season, if not spoilt... and having supported them since the 1960/70 season (I was 10) I've seen enough dross and mediocrity along the way to appreciate what I've seen this season ... a lot of our 'older heads' on this particular forum seem to be of like mind ... so I'm hoping for the best next season ... even if we come straight back down the club is in a far healthier position both off and on the pitch than it has been for a very long time ...
Ooh I remember that season well - our first in the exalted heights of Div 2, and we actually managed to beat you as well - one of the few victories that season. I have to admit that, of the teams I've actually been able to see at The Vic this season, yours was far and away the best. Blew us off the park with pace and power & started the rot that led to Zola's resignation. Don't know if that was a good thing or not really...
I would like to add my congratulations to Leicester too. Always had a soft spot for them since my University days and Frank o Filbert Street. They have been great this season and pretty good last - and thanks to them and Burnley there is some hope that moneybags QPha will miss out. If Watford could not go up I could not have picked a better two
In many ways this has been a good season as far as promotions and relegation s are concerned, apart from us of course. I'm pleased that Leicester and, particularly, Burnley are going up. I hope that they are joined by Wigan or Derby. With luck Vincent Tan is heading for League One. That's what comes from changing from blue to red. QPR will have to cut their budget if they want to sign any new players. Kenny Jacket has got Wolves up and I've no problem with Brentford joining them. I hope Orient can win the play-offs. And as I'm in a charitable mood, even our neighbours have achieved Football League status. I think that means that Cornwall is now the only county without a league club. Still, as Torquay have found, getting into the league and staying there are two different things. Finally Manchester United look to be finally proving that they really are a big club and heading in the direction of those other big clubs, Leeds, Nottm Forest, and Sheffield Wednesday.
I don't think Man U will be quite that bad but its strange Ferguson left when they probably had the worse set of players for quite a while leaving Moyes in a tricky position. Maybe not getting into Europe will do them good - the title winning season papered over a lot of cracks. Well done to the Foxes and Clarets - deserved promotion and good luck to them both. I hope Pearson and Dyche do get a fair crack of things.
I was really having a go at supporters of certain clubs who think that their teams are better than others in the Championship because of events that occurred before they were born.
Oh yes - I fully agree there are some supporters who think because they won a league or European cup decades ago it means they deserve to be in the top flight.
I have this horrible feeling we'll get drawn to play at the Kennel in the 1st round of the Capital One Cup given that we'll be seeded and they won't and it's sorted using a north/south split. It should be interesting when they play Stevenage. There is potentially 2 Jerseymen who could be promoted, although one more likely than the other. The pair are Brett Pitman at Bournemouth and Peter Vincenti at Rochdale.
