A great player and a great sportsman and gentleman and ambassador for the sport. An inspiration for many. Only a pity that some members of the present Brazilian team don't live up to his standards of sportsmanship. RIP <rose>

In my view, the greatest player ever to grace the game. And a gentleman he was too.<rose>

One of the world's finest - with Pele standing next to him...

We all remember Pele and the magnificent Brazil team which won the 1970 World cup - possibly the best team ever to win it. I honestly base my memories of him on this one competition because I was too young to remember anything from 1958 or 1962, and I never saw anything of his club football. In the 1966 World Cup he was literally kicked out of it - most of the tackles then would be straight reds now - first Bulgaria (he missed the next one against Hungary because of injury) and then Portugal kicked chunks out of him at every opportunity. Which they didn't need to because Eusebio was also a great player. Would England have won it if Brazil had not gone out in the group phase - we'll never know. He was a credit to the game and a real ambassador for it - whether he was the best of all time I can't judge on that based on only one competition and I saw much more of Johann Cruyff.

Having to play in these circumstances puts Pele at #1 in my book. Some shocking stuff here...

There were some on this forum who were happy when Rob Edwards was sacked. I expressed my disappointment that he was not given longer, although I recognized that he had made errors. He was not given the playing squad which he needed for his preferred system (for example, Baird rather than Gaspar). Edwards has made a good start at Luton, who - away at Huddersfield - won their third consecutive game today. Luton (5th) are now above Watford (7th) in the Championship table.

Won with 10 men , away from home and after going a goal down .

2 of those things we didn’t do when Edwards was here ..

How can you draw at Man City then be so poor at home in the next game ?

Lampard might be in a bit of bother now.

Albeit Brighton are an excellent side .

In Scotland they'd call that a 'meet & greet' - with totally different connotations to the American term.

It seems that some Everton fans want Dyche to take over - he may not bring them the free-flowing football they'd prefer to see, but I suspect he'd keep them in Premier League.

German referee Patrick Ittrich has suggested making several changes to football's rules..

    1) For a tactical foul in midfield, a free-kick should be awarded 17 metres from goal. How often will we see such fouls then?

    2) If the player rolls on the floor three times and needs a doctor, get him one and make him wait on the sideline for 3 minutes. How quickly do you think the player would stand up?

    3) If a player insults the referee, send them off for 10 minutes to calm down. Go cycling to warm up before coming back on. We can learn from handball in that respect.

    4) How is a referee surrounded by 10 men after a decision? In my opinion, boom, boom, boom - three red cards. Play seven against ten now. That'd be fine by me.

Lots of ways the game could be improved
    1) Yikes that could be dodgy...if it wasnt a tactical foul and the ref made a bad call
    2) yes
    3) yes...a sin bin.... absolutely
    4) and i thught some time back on the cpatain could approach the ref... .totally agree

I think referees should be giving yellow cards for simulation beyond pure diving. We see this all the time where the player has been fouled, but tries to fake a terrible injury to get the opposition carded. Stop rolling around on the floor or acting like you've just been hit by a sniper!
