I don’t think Boris will do something like this unless he is forced to.

Too busy having parities and not wearing masks when he should !

With new cases rising by 54,000 today, and the varient Omicron beginning to make a mark, he may be forced into something before he knows what has hit him.

For just about the first time the Federal Republic has brought in uniform rules for the whole country - not different from state to state as it has been up to now. The new regulations are:
    1. Only fully vaccinated and proven recovered are allowed into shops - food shops are not included in this but masks must be worn (as it has been up to now).
    2. The same applies to culture and leisure activities - only fully vaccinated or proven recovered (obviously masked).
    3. Masks have always been worn on public transport - but now tests are required as well.
    4. All clubs and discotheques have the same rules as under 1. but are not allowed to open at all if the incidence in an area is more than 350 new cases for every 100,000 population.
    5. Football stadiums also have the same rules on entrance (only fully vaccinated or recovered) - testing alone is no longer enough, and stadiums can only be 30%-50% full depending on capacity, and not more than 15;000 - which means Dortmund will only be 20%.
    6. In the home only 2 people from another family are allowed to visit at one time (excluding children under 14).
    7. The sale of fireworks has been banned for New Years Eve.
    8. Masks are compulsory in all schools (but they're remaining open. There is compulsory vaccination for all teachers.

The German government (along with those of the Federal states) has managed to cock up everything so far so we'll see how they carry these through. I can't imagine bus drivers having much enthusiasm about controlling vaccination passes or test results during rush hours <doh>

They are talking about bringing in compulsory vaccination here - they will debate the subject for a while and then have it approved by the constitutional court in Karlsruhe - which will take some time, as these things normally do here. The virus will (of course) bide it's time, and wait for these long winded decisions.

Looks as though some of the restrictions here might be brought back in. Meeting taking place Monday to discuss what needs to be done to get numbers back down again. Bars and restaurants might suffer once more just as the Christmas/New Year celebrations could have seen them busy.

Yes - I did notice again we had mixed messages from the powers that be.

One MP said be careful having mass gatherings and maybe even consider cancelling them whilst Boris then said don't worry, get on with it.

I suppose the Government would be more than happy to blame football fans if they could.

Should have been given by VAR (Atwell)

Mind you Everton will feel their two disallowed goals were tight offside calls.

Which simply highlights that the real problem is not with VAR - it's with the offside law itself. No matter how often the authorities tinker with it, they always seem to make it harder to police, even after introducing technology to help - and seem to now make changes to everything to justify having the technology. They really just need to make laws simple for everyone to understand - even fans of the Big Six who appear to have more trouble than most...

Just watched Liverpool comfortably beat Milan and be the first team ever to win all 6 of their league games in the European Championship

No 'new manager bounce' there - lost his first match in charge 12-0 yesterday...
