True - I am not sure what the Geordies would do then! But apparently these new owners are even richer than Man City so you’d think they would do well. There were some trying to defend this on Twitter !
Madness In other news The LiVARpool fans and Manure fans are seeing Newcastle as a threat to buy any of the best players available, I have heard some are in meltdown
I can't help wondering how I would respond if Watford were to be taken over by a regime as despotic as Saudi Arabia, or by someone in the upper echelons of such a regime. The people who have taken over Newcastle would quite happily have Elton John executed - probably in public.
We are very lucky with our owners We may not have the funding that the Saudis would provide but we can hold our head high, despite the number of head coaches
It seems that through the eyes of the Newcastle fans, anyone has to be better than Ashley. No protests about Saudi from them, or those that issue weapons licenses to export arms to them. For some people football is the be all and end all of their lives.
Exactly - so long as Bruce and Ashley aren't there they won't care. Until it goes wrong and Newcastle don't win things..
It has emerged that the UK Foreign Office has been involved in the talks about the sale of Newcastle. When the BBC asked for some details under a FOI request, the government refused in case it upset the Saudis. In its letter to the BBC in March this year, the Foreign Office said: "We acknowledge that releasing information on this issue would increase public knowledge about our relations with Saudi Arabia." But officials added: "The disclosure of information detailing our relationship with the Saudi government could potentially damage the bilateral relationship between the UK and Saudi Arabia. "This would reduce the UK government's ability to protect and promote UK interests through its relations with Saudi Arabia which would not be in the public interest." To me this sounds like government interference in footballing matters, which is not allowed.
Thank goodness this wasn’t on a match day ! https://www.skysports.com/football/...ational-stadium-day-before-european-qualifier
The other 19 EPL clubs aren't happy about the Newcastle take-over. "There is also thought to be concern from teams about how competitive Newcastle could now become and how their wealth could inflate transfer fees and wages." A little hypocritical of some of those clubs if true... https://www.watfordobserver.co.uk/s...-clubs-reportedly-angered-newcastle-takeover/
Fit and proper = loadsamoney It's reminded me why I lost interest in the Premier League...more and more cash from more and more dubious sources.
Stunning second half performance from Scotland - I don't think the Israelis knew what hit them. I doubt the ref would have got out alive had he disallowed the Dyke's goal...
"the slickest of short-term business models, mastery of a powerful brand in a chaotic world. All the details might not be geared toward those finer points of cups, pots and team building. But hey, check out the bottom line." Barney Ronay always expresses my views far better than I do!
Sunderland fan in peace here. You have no idea what it's like up here at the minute, mate. Mags crawling out of the woodwork acting like nuggets. However, majority I work with have mixed emotions about the takeover and whom is involved.
Very harsh red card (2nd yellow) here? For time wasting at 0-0 after 30 minutes! We needed this ref in the Newcastle game! Well of course the new manager will have to play Kevin Keegan type all out attack football to please them I guess which a lot of top managers don't - Conte/Zidane etc. And they won't get anyone that good for at least 2/3 seasons unless it's just for the money and a good pay day. I think Man City were at least in and around the European places when the Arabs came in? TBH I think they'd taken anyone over Mike Ashley - some of the songs they sung at him and Steve Bruce were pretty vile and that was when they played well v us. Not their fault the players couldn't score.
Outrageous red card for Jamal Lewis. Disgusting having saudi money in English football. Typical enough response from our regime, but then our biggest export is likely to be arms and they are likely to be our biggest customer. Thought the referee for the England game was pretty good. She got the big calls right though I thought she was a little odd with the sanctions, giving their players too much grace and ours none at all. Otherwise a decent performance.
