Why doesn't offside relate to the players feet ? I'm sure it used to. It would make so ,much sense. Who cares if a players arm is in front ? what difference does it make to a game played with the feet.
The problem for me is the offside rule - it's not clear cut enough. I sometimes wonder if it was actually changed simply to justify having VAR. You could also argue that it's discriminatory - in the women's game, does it take into account the adverse effect on forwards with big boobs? I really think it should go back to the days of 'clear daylight between' - there wouldn't be anywhere near as many arguments.
Yes I agree we seem to be getting goals ruled out for anything much more than usual just to serve a purpose. I do suspect the reaction on the TV and in the papers would have been rather different if it had been Chelsea getting those decisions. Leicester gained from them and as they were the good boys/underdogs it made for a great story.
Michael Oliver's second FA Cup Final whistle, following the 2018 final. FA rules are that you only get one. That said I think he did a good job yesterday but perhaps there really is a paucity of top quality in form referees. Not entirely sure how happy I am with the VAR, all a bit tight. The assistant didn't raise his flag and benefit of the doubt should go to the attacking team. I don't buy this nonsense about the hand or arm being offside on its own - can't score with with it, shouldn't be offside. And rather like the rules for competitive speed walking: if the offence isn't discernable by the eye then the last couple of millimetres of actual offence should not come into it. Pleased with the result though and glad Kasper Schmeichel had a great game.
I agree with all of that. Personally, I would like to see VAR for offsides scrapped. There is still too much room for an element of doubt. With these days a lot of players wearing GPS, if we are going to go down the technology route, I don’t see why technology can’t produce a simpler answer, i.e. whose GPS was offside, as opposed to whose left knacker is, as per current rules. I thought Leicester deserved it, although there were some fine spells for Chelsea in terms of possession, they did sweet FA with it, and the goal and two saves saw Leicester worthy winners, IMHO. As for Oliver, I don’t think there is another referee close to him in terms of ability. When he very rarely gets it wrong, you can always see why he made the call. He’s an unsung star of modern football, I believe.
It was - Troy would have been proud of that ! A bit fortunate maybe that WBA had a goal disallowed though earlier ?
So who are you all supporting tonight? Barnsley and Brentford for me - which is probably the kiss of death for both of them.
Yes same for me...... the underdogs in a way .... BUT brentford have come so close before........ Barnsley also.... and less than an hour from me for an away game.... so clealry supporting them....
How right was I? A bad night for me - I've been watching the Edinburgh City v Dumbarton play off 1st leg and Edinburgh are being comprehensively beaten.
That has to be one of the worst Championship level games I have seen for a very long time. Barnsley straight out of the Aidy playbook.
England striker Harry Kane has once again told Tottenham he wants to leave the Premier League club at the end of the season. Manchester City, Chelsea and Manchester United have expressed a desire to sign the 27-year-old. (Sky Sports) I wonder if they could take Success on a free as a suitable replacement
