Mixed feelings here.. Up North if you don't support Leeds you have little goodwill for them. It would have been a doddle to get to see Watford at Elland Road. I guess too that they might have posed more of a threat in the Prem than Derby /Villa. But that is speculation. As on several occasions this season they failed to defend when they needed to... Yeah, but it's still... well, them! I'm happy as anything with the two finalists: a trip to Brum is always welcome as it is a fantastic pub crawl; a trip to Derby, probably two as I stay there for the Leicester games, is equally welcome as I have besties to see up there!
Tony Pulis has left Middlesbrough after the Championship club announced his contract would not be extended.
Well that's it, the French Football Ligue 2 has finished with the final games tonight. My local team finished, guess where, 11th. They were 10th until the 4th minute of added time when they conceded a goal and had to settle for a 2-2 draw. A real season of the unexpected, just like the Championship in England. Still there is always next season to look forward to.
Just read on an Ajax fan forum that for the Europa League final in Baku, Arsenal have managed to sell 3,000 tickets and Chelsea 600 ! The cost of such a round trip, complete with ticket, averages out at around 2,500 pounds. I'm sure that they could all have fitted well into Clarence Park (Snalbans) - this would also give us a better atmosphere. The face of modern football
An Arsenal supporting friend could have got tickets but no way of getting there without spending silly money or taking a long time off work !
In case anyone missed it: Udinese are safe. Their system works on a head to head basis, then goal difference, then goals scored. If GD was counted first then they'd still be in trouble, although with the easier final fixture at Cagliari. Inter v Empoli and Fiorentina v Genoa are the remaining fixtures. Udinese drew 2-2 at Genoa and won the return 2-0 so, regardless of goal difference and results Genoa will finish below Udinese with Frosinone and Chievo already relegated. Okaka scored 4 goals in the last two matches to secure safety.
Hope Wilmott had a good time - probably a bit gutted to miss out on a Cup final ... well maybe the occasion rather than match !!
81st min sub v Inter (0-0); 90mins v Lazio (L0-2); 46 min sub v AC Milan (1-1, 0-1 at HT); 1st half v Juve (L0-4, 0-2HT) and that's it. Juventus, Milan, Inter and Lazio: doubtless all matches they expected to lose. Zeegelaar P12; total 955 mins; 6Y 1Y-R; no goals Okaka P16; total 972 mins; 4Y; 6 goals
One of my monthly dinner friends is a Charlton fan and I know he will be plastered. Not through celebrating, but because he broke his wrist two weeks ago.
Hope he still went to the game ! Was pleased to see them win after that shocking Own goal.. Fortunately didn't affect Charlton too much .
Udinese won 2-1 at Cagliari and finished 12th! Empoli were the third team relegated losing 2-1 at Inter with Genoa drawing 0-0 at Fiorentina. Edit- Wilmot 84min sub, YC 87min. Okaka and Zeegelar not in party.
