Udinese scraped a 1-0 against Chievo this afternoon... puts them just four points clear of the relegation places. The locals aren't happy. A dire performance by all accounts and they think they're doomed. Gino was in attendance.
Alas not. Okaka started, subbed at 56' by Pussetto. Zeegelaar came on at 21'. Teodorczyk on at 82'.... Udinese had a penalty award overturned by VAR, won a second penalty which Teodorczyk had saved but scored immediately after... Not had a lot of luck with the VAR what with two goals ruled out last week. 3points but the fans cannot see them surviving. Gino at a match for the first time in ages. We're not popular, considered leeches and blamed for the lack of investment at Udinese....
What they forget is not only is the EPL the big money cow .But you can say to up and coming stars if they go and play for Udinese and they play well they could be transfered to the EPL with Watford
The problem is that the money is not getting back to Udinese. Not our fault but we get the blame. In case you all didn't realise (which I doubt, but I'll point it out anyway), Italian is not the native language of Udine. Friulano, which owes more to the Slavic languages is. On the board I frequent only Italian and English is allowed when discussing Watford... difficult to find a Friulano online translator.
Championship promotion hopefuls Leeds United have been fined £200,000 by the English Football League for watching opponents train before matches. A member of Leeds' staff was found acting suspiciously outside Derby's training ground before the fixture between the two sides on 10 January. Boss Marcelo Bielsa said he had sent a member of staff to watch every team they have played this season train.
Chelsea have been banned from signing new players in the next two transfer windows for breaching rules in relation to the international transfer and registration of players under the age of 18, Fifa has announced. They have also been fined 600,000 Swiss francs, while the Football Association has been fined 510,000 Swiss francs. I wonder what the FA involvement is? To receive a fine suggests that they must have known what was happening, yet turned a blind eye to it.
I bet they get it reduced to one window but still not ideal for a club that needs investment in the squad !
Might give thier youth a chance, also can they recall loans? The have over 10 million players on loan, right?
Contentious handball by Mr Hernandez for West Ham missed? I am not a massive fan of VAR but does make you wonder how much it will improve things by spotting things like that.
As far as I am concerned the jury is still out on VAR. Not sure if anyone on here saw the Ajax v Real Madrid game but my feeling is that around a third of all goals could be disallowed through one technicality or the other - it could also lead to teams demanding the use of VAR at every opportunity, if they know it's there. Far better would be to train referees better, and pay them more. If referees make mistakes then it is only human, and part and parcel of the game - if their decisions are going to be disputed at every turn then we may as well not have them.
Mike Dean on 99 red cards .. Who will be the 100th? Could have given Foyth of Spurs one but probably got the booking right . Dyche will disagree I suspect !
Leicester City have sacked Claude Puel as their manager after Saturday’s 4-1 home defeat by Crystal Palace and want to appoint Brendan Rodgers as his successor.
