Another big name entering the world of managements in Sol Campbell. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/46357879 After years of claiming his colour prevents him getting a management job Sol has landed the gig at Macclesfield. Cannot lose really as they already look doomed so will just blame the previous manager/players if they go down or if he keeps them up will be a hero like Paul Ince was. Bet he doesn't last beyond February.
Tonight my local team are at home to Sochaux- Montbéliard. Nothing remarkable about that, but when you start to look into who the opposition are you find that there is a tale that makes the Bassini reign look quite tame. https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wing_Sang_Li
Cardiff making coming from behind a habit - warning for us in a few weeks ?! Wolves slipping a bit - mind you wasn't much they could do about the winner . See Sky are building up the Derby games - 3 0/0s?!
Mark Hughes has been sacked as Southampton manager after eight months in charge. In the Sun first! https://www.thesun.co.uk/sport/football/7884880/southampton-sack-mark-hughes/
They actually got a half decent result on Saturday ! Spent a lot of money on very little it seems and Hughes couldn't get the combination of defence and attack right .
A question for the refereees on here (Fez). At the moment Taunton are 2-0 up against Harrow Borough in the Southern League Premier South - Harrow have had 3 sent off in the first half. As far as I know a match can be abandoned if a team has fewer than 7 on the pitch - could Taunton be disadvantaged by this if there are more gone in the second half ?
Seven is the minimum, one must be a GK. Six a side has its own laws. If Taunton were winning and HBFC went down to six the game would be abandoned (it would regardless of the score) and I would think the game would be awarded as is or 3-0. HBFC are in line for a hefty fine for sure.
I followed it all on twitter Fez - lived in Somerset for about 14 years and still follow Taunton's progress carefully. The strange thing was that it wasn't a dirty match - just 3 moments of madness by individuals (one off the ball) and 3 straight reds. The goal difference could be very important in the end because only one goes up automatically to the National League - and Weymouth and Taunton could be neck and neck at the end.
And the pyramid structure changes next season. They're currently at level 8. I've played at 10 (filling in, above my station tbh) and 13 for quite a few seasons. The pyramid currently starts at 21. Officiated at 8, all too briefly after falling out with the "Blazers".
They're looking for their second promotion in consecutive years which, if successfull, could see them coming up against some fully professional clubs. The transition from semi pro (pay as you play) to fully professional must be one of the biggest steps you can take in football, with a sudden need for an increase in income. Since automatic promotion and relegation the National League has become mostly fully professional, at least at level 5.
Level 3 in France has fully professional, semi-professional and amateurs all together. The idea is to provide a transitional period for clubs going from the 4th level to the 2nd.
