Well Chelsea lose - to Newcastle again and Stoke beat Arsenal again. Not a good weekend for the London sides with Spurs only drawing too...
Not a car in sight to lose the ball under and it was like that for me. Today there is not a place to park in the road where we played. The milkman came along with his horse and cart and from time to time the coalman did as well. In both cases the horse knew where to stop without being led, and our 'football pitch' was cleared up by householders keen to feed their roses.
Didn't have plastic bottles in my day, we used tin cans if we didn't have a ball. In fact we played a tin ball championship at reserve games at the Vic.
Nor in the days that picture was taken either. Us hoi polloi didn't have access to plastic bottles until the early sixties...
I don't remember plastic bottles at all when I was a kid. Probably my age is sifting out this memory. Love the post, ofh, my dad talks of the milk cart in similar fashion.
Football league highlights moving to Channel 5 next season with a 9pm time on Saturday, Hopefully won't be on it!
Auckland City have reached the semi finals of the FIFA world club cup and now play San Lorenzo of Argentina, the South American champions. This is absolutely amazing. In football ranking terms they are on about the same level as Boreham Wood. There is also a Watford connexion. Jamie Pritchett was on their subs bench in the last game. He is the son of Keith Pritchett, and was born in Watford. Even though I am now a confirmed South Islander I think they have done tremendously well, despite them being JAFAs!
Keith Pritchett - there was a player! I didn't know what JAFA meant! I thought it must be our slang, Jaffa. Now if all the JAFAs were Jaffas, then they'd soon be no more JAFAs.
Not bad for an amateur team. This is the sixth time they have entered, and they narrowly missed out on a semi final berth last year in Morocco. Well done to them
