Billy - I think the squad picks itself. The old guard are the best around IMO - which, to me, speaks volumes about the state of the English game. At the risk of sounding racist - too many foreigners in it, stifling things for local talent. Gone are the days of shouting down the pit for the game's stars............
Re Wembley FC, glad to see they've included the Jerseyman - never thought that there'd be a match report for an FA Cup tie that early in the competition in the Jersey Evening Post! Re England, I would've had Richards in place of either Jagielka or Jones, Carrick in for Henderson and AJ in for Downing. I admit that when they were both at Boro, Downing was better but AJ came on loan to us and the regular football was the kick-start he needed plus Downing has never been at his best since he broke his leg. As for the 3rd keeper, I would've rather had a keeper who'd been playing regularly in the Championship and had been consistant than Jack Butland. Other options could've been Ben Amos (Man U) and Ross Turnbull (Chelsea).
Beginning to look as if there is trouble ahead north of the border. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/18577192
That probably means I'll get the chance to watch, and gleefully poke fun at, them in Elgin and Peterhead next season.
Gylfi Ãór Sigurðsson is talking with Tottenham Hotspur now. They have offered more to him than Liverpool or Swansea City but Reading supporters think he will go there. Not one of the clubs or TSG Hoffenheim has european football.
Is it possible that the newco could end up with a dose of Lossiemouth next season? (thanks to Antony Jay and Jonathan Lynn for that one)
The question is whether they will keep their players. The Administrator says that it is up to the players whether they choose to go to the Newco, the Newco owners say that the players have to go to the Newco, provided they stay on the same pay rates. I suspect that some lawyers are going to make a bit from this.
4 players have already said no to the deal, Naismith, Aluko, Whittaker and a kid whose name slips my memory. Those 3 would walk into most middle to lower half Prem sides IMHO.
I don't understand why Rangers are going so hard on trying to keep existing players. Unless I'm missing something, they have zero chance of staying in the SPL: four clubs have stated they are voting against, and I wouldn't bet against Celtic forming a new club if their board dares defy the fanbase.
Five actually - which is the minimum number required to boot them out. I wouldn't be surprised that now that magic figure has been reached and they finally realise which way the wind is blowing, they start trying to offload players.
I feel sorry for the Scottish third division sides, who will have little chance of automatic promotion if a new Rangers, with massive financial backing, are allowed into the Scottish League at that level.
A lengthy but interesting read. http://myonlycardiff.com/2012/06/27/cardiff-city-season-ticket-refund-meeting-270612/
Beckham isn't an over-age player for Team GB. Apparently they will be Giggs, Bellamy and Micah Richards. Shame for Becks really...
It just feels wrong. He worked really hard to get the Olympics here, and as a thank you, we don't include him in the squad. He may not be quite as fit as the others, but he probably has more talent and ability on the ball, it doesn't make sense to me to exclude him. But then it just sums Psycho up really! lol
