Yeah it's a good move from Forest. It would be interesting to know what clubs do with the food that isn't sold from every game ? There must be loads of waste.
I think HIAG's got a shard of Pot Noodle lodged in his brain mate. But it's an interesting question about all the food from major events. I know a lot of supermarkets now have got community schemes where they give out short shelf life food. Years ago I used to have a saturday job in sainsbury's working in the bakery, the amount of bread and cakes we threw out was ****ing criminal.
There is mate, during the semi-final play-off with Palace back in 2004 the match went into extra-time and then penalties at the SOL.. They were literally bagging all the pies up to chuck away towards the end in the Concourse Stand, me and my lad got a couple of sack loads off them, it was a case of take what you want, they are going in the bin ffs.. To think, 45 mins earlier they were selling them for £3 a shot..
Listening to a bloke from Nottingham Forest, on TalkSport, as I was driving into work today, he actually mentioned the number of ex forces blokes who end up on the street. It’s a damning indictment on modern society that anyone should be left homeless. There are a few sleeping on the streets of Bath, in shop doorways. It is very sad to see.
I run a food business these days, and whilst my product isn't perishable, I attend loads of foodie events and festivals where businesses do 'food to go'. They sell stuff for top dollar during the event, like £8 for noodles or paella for example. Then at the end, they can't give it away quick enough. I've seen sack loads of food getting binned off, it's so wasteful. I think the organisers of these events should coordinate some kind of collection at the end that they can take to homeless shelters or care homes etc.
How many pies and steak bakes do you think Greggs waste each year? A tramp would probably kill for a cheese and onion slice! I would love to see his hoary, grizzled old face light up when he gets handed a sausage and tomato bake by one of Greggs’ noble volunteers. There isn’t enough kindness in the world.
Listen, I wouldn’t begrudge any tramp a Greggs “surplus to requirements” steak bake, not even Commie.
Seems that Greggs are actually one of those doing something positive about it. https://www.greggsfoundation.org.uk/unsold-food-donations
I know when i used to work for tesco they just chucked all the expired food away. Same with my friend who worked at patisserie valerie. They did this supposedly because if they give it away just like that (dunno if its different if its through a trust) and someone gets ill they can then potentially sue the company. So dumb how much food goes to waste and so annoying how people would even think about sueing and gaming the system (I'm guessing this has happened in the past thus ruining it for everyone). I remember watching a programme about people bin diving supermarket bins as theres th much good food going to waste
Same as meds, once prescribed any returns even if unopened are destroyed. TBF, some of these methods are neanderthal. Makes a mockery of some of the charidee ads. What a time to be alive hey ho.
Unlike you, if i want one, i can make my own. You do realise Greggs is a North East company, and we had them many a year before they hit down south?
Most of the sell by dates on supermarket produce are just that 'sell by', it's not an indication that food has spoiled. Buy yeah I can see where a litigious society would put these companies on edge about being sued, especially when we live in such a pussy no win no fee culture where chancers will give it a go and lawyers and solicitors see an easy buck to be made. I think the Greggs (there's probably others) scheme is a good one. They obviously have some legal disclaimers built into the donation of the food, but this must be a better way of dealing with unsold food rather than chucking it away. Especially when you factor in the amount of energy consumed to grow, produce, ship, store, package and distribute the food in the first place.
I can understand that with Meds though, if they are returned there's not really any way of checking whether they have been tampered with. With food from Supermarkets etc, at least there will be some checks and balances in place to ensure that the food is safe for consumption.
I've had ration packs right up to the 2000s, some even had sweeties and choclate in that dated back to the 60s, lusherooney.
