Bring in the black card from Gaelic football. Deliberate, cynical fouls result in an enforced substitution, instead of just a normal yellow.

One of the interesting things about the Rugby system is that the final call is always that of the onfield referree. But because the process is public it doesn't seem to result in it being hard to overturn the original decision.
Good idea to have a two review limit though I think it might be difficult to implement owing to the lack of natural breaks giving the chance for players to consider whether to challenge. It would probably be the coach who would have to challenge.

the best part of the Rugby system is that no players complain or sound off about it and just accept the decision.

perhaps football could learn to respect to refs !

    **** all this technology ****e.
I say bring back jumpers for goal posts and play rush goalie.
When it gets to the 85th minute play next goal wins.
Played some of my best football following these basic rules.

That's a good option. I am in favour of very severe punishment for deliberate fouls as they disrupt the play too much. Basically there should be no point in committing one because it should always leave you worse off. To take an extreme example if pulling on a shirt (which can't be done accidentally) was a red card offence then no one would do it.

Rugby has always strictly enforced Laws which make it very damaging to show dissent. So there isn't any. A yellow card in football for dissent is quite rare and involves no immediate penalty so dissent continues to happen.

Football treats fans like cash cows, they charge ever increasing amounts for tickets while getting hundreds of millions per year in tv deals and even more from sponsorship deals and merchandise sales...football clubs demand loyalty from managers and then **** them off at the first sign of a problem...look at Leicester with Ranieri or Chelsea with several managers etc...
The idea thst footbsll will respect a ref is a far fetched dream imho.

Then there is the issue that football refs are unbelievably inconsistent in a way that rugby refs aren't...I have no idea why but refs are especially poor at the moment and tbh have not been particularly good for the past decade or so ... on the whole European refs are way better imo from going to matches...they are far more consistent

Who'd want to be a ref? We treat them like **** at all levels, especially youth and amateurs, then wonder why they're all useless.
You'd have to be a complete lunatic to do it, so they're all ****ing lunatics.

TBF I think the game is a lot quicker in the English leagues, ever more fly players diving for decisions etc. Is it cheating or is it professional, it's a very fine margin.

The treatment of refs in junior leagues is outrageous...parents and coaches who abuse the refs should be ashamed.
Sunday league players and fans get away with unbelievable amount of abuse at refs.
Truely shocking to hear refs talk about the abuse they suffer.

It’s definitely cheating; going down at the slightest touch even if you are not remotely unbalanced is cheating, but players are actively encouraged to do it, and ex players acting as tv pundits applaud it, so there’s no chance of changing it.

The phrase "professional foul" does not like this.

A well executed foul is actually an art form and, especially in Italian football, is rightly applauded as such; but that’s another story.

I might be wrong but every team that has scored 9 goals in the top divison since the 1960s has qualified for the CL/European Cup...so that's you lot, Liverpool and City sorted!
