Former Liverpool and Germany midfielder Dietmar Hamann says former Borussia Dortmund boss Jurgen Klopp, 48, would be a "great fit" at Anfield, if Rodgers leaves. (Sky Sports) No ****, Sherlock! That's like saying, "if Sid Little ever decided to give up playing the guitar in the LIttle & Large Show, Eric Clapton would have been a good replacement!" Unbelievable!
Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand claims Sir Alex Ferguson was wrong to let Juventus and France midfielder Paul Pogba, 22, leave the club. (Daily Mail) No ****, Sherlock! Hindsight is such a wonderful thing, eh, Rio! It makes even you look smart!
Ferguson knew that he wasn't going to be there long, so bringing back Scholes and alienating Pogba was someone else's problem. Poor.
Barcelona's Dani Alves believes former team-mate Pedro should have stayed at the Nou Camp rather than join Chelsea.(Daily Express) No ****, Sherlock!
Check how many games he played to get there...then check Greavesie's numbers.Jim didn't play against many bagwoods international teams.Charlton played more international games than Jim to beat Jim's record.
No doubt Greaves was the greatest international scorer. Had he played 100+ games, the record would never have been beaten. It's such a shame that his glory years were relatively few. 60-66 really. Only played 1 game after 66 world cup if memory serves.
Not exactly suitable for the thread but I watched a bit of the women's cup match between Arsenal and Birmingham yesterday and the commentator on BT Sport said that it was odd that shots that hit the woodwork didn't count as 'on target'......possibly because they missed the goal?
"the commentator on BT Sport said that it was odd that shots that hit the woodwork didn't count as 'on target'...... possibly because they missed the goal?" IMHO shots off the woodwork that go towards the goal face should be counted as on target, and those that do not should not. For example, a shot off the crossbar that dips downs towards the goal line is on target, while the shot that travels on into row Z is off target.
I don't understand why that would be. The target is between the posts. On to the post/bar is not on target?
Exactly. Its black and white as far as i'm concerned. Hitting the woodwork gets you nothing. Hitting that big space in between the woodwork is the target you are aiming for. Its a bit like adding an extra circle to an archery target and awarding zero points for hitting it. The arrow is stuck in the actual physical target but you get **** all for it, so off target.
"Hitting the woodwork gets you nothing." A shot that hits the woodwork first and goes into the net is a goal, is it not. So in fact it does gets you something. The next question is whether you class such shots as being akin to one of the following : - an on-target shot deflected by a player but remains on-target - an off-target shot deflected by a player but now becomes on-target
"Hitting the woodwork and in is not the same as hitting the woodwork" and not in. 1. Fixed. 2. Is the former on-target or not ??
Yes. Otherwise many more teams would be scoring more times than they hit the target, not just the ones that play Spurs. The ball going in or not is what dictates on or off target. Because getting it in is the whole point.
Hitting the woodwork is not the same as hitting row Z or the corner flag although the end result is the same... no goal. As a fan I like to see a real effort and all players fighting for the win so I applaud the nearly goals and am frustrated by the speculative hoofs. I would rather see a ball hit the woodwork and know that the player was shooting at that area between the goalkeepers reach and the post than shoot straight at the keeper for an easy save. One is rewarded as a shot on target and the other one as good as the shot that goes out for a throw in.
Will they be wanting to award a point for hitting the woodwork next? This is becoming a crazy world.Men marrying men.Women marrying women. They'll be marrying their dogs next!!!!! I would like to see the removal of managers from their allotted places and put back to where they used to be.You've all seen it....managers pointing and yelling instuctions to their players. Now,in a game, with the crowd yelling, how can players hear managers instructions?.....and if the players look at the manager, the ball and opposing player could have gone by him! Perhaps,in the future,if not now(!),the players will have a device in their ears connected to the manager for instructions.
There's something special about hitting the woodwork, especially the bar as oppose to the post. I always got this sense of 'you see that? The power in my shot was immense was it not??!, next time it'll be a goal, until then admire the power.'
Especially when it hits the post and rebounds of the keepers head and into the goal. Probably never going to happen
