The talk was they would tag him and then trade him so they get something for him. How that would’ve worked against the cap I don’t know as I assume there would be some penalty for trading a player who is under contract.

Free agency starts in a week and should be interesting from a Vikings perspective, lot of money to play with and a very depleted team. Expect a lot of movement in the secondary and in the interior O line. Probably a running back as well. The reports I’ve read said that re-signing Murphy is a big priority so wouldn’t be surprised if he got some ridiculous contract so that he stays.

All the noise says that this a good defensive tackle draft so think that’s where they are going with their first rounder so wouldn’t expect a big splash in that area in free agency.
Murphy apparently wants $20mill a year - er.....no. Move on if that's his demand, other CB's on the market.

I think they’ll pay it. They have loads of money and basically no secondary under contract. They will want to keep some players who know the scheme and system. The players will know this and that the Vikings have loads of cap so obviously be asking for more, the team isn’t good enough for players to take team friendly deals I think. I’m expecting both Murphy and Bynum to resign at inflated prices, I think they’ll let the others all walk. Leaves the team looking very bare and with no draft capital really they are going to need to go hard in free agency, and probably not for any top level players as they need to spread the money around.

Vikings interested in Aaron Rodgers! That would really go down well in Green Bay! He struggled in New York but he had a defensive minded HC and not a very good offensive team. KOC + Rodgers + Jefferson would be fun.

Can’t see it. Probably just a wind up by the front office to annoy the Packers.

Darnold to the Seahawaks looking likely now they’ve traded Smith

The first of a few dumb moves over the next few days to keep the team together
His age is a concern, RB's tend to regress quite quickly when they reach their 30's. But he was solid last season although he needs to cut out the fumbles.

He was probably the best FA running back available, but just feels like a lot. Not checked but he must be close to top 5 highest paid now, which is too much for him.

The guy from the Colts is who they are allegedly going to throw money at, no idea how good he is as don’t pay much attention to O Line at other teams. Fries his name is

Will Fries. Think he’s high up on the Dolphins wish list as well as we need some major O Line strengthening. Missed most of last season with a fractured Tibia. Though I think he’ll end up in Chicago.

Looking forward to when FA starts for real this week. It's just a few days of complete chaos. A few big names have re-signed with their current teams but even so, some big names out there.

Should know a fair bit by about 6pm today. FA officially opens on Wednesday but teams can speak to players from midday east coast time.

Always enjoy this week, is like deadline day on roids

I think I would like us to get Fries. Vikings will need to sign a QB in case McCarthy struggles/gets injured again. Vikings will be big players in FA with the cap space they have.

Free Agent DL Jonathan Allen visiting the Vikings today apparently.

Would be a good addition. I see Jaycee Horn just broke the record as highest paid DB at $100m for 4 years with 70m guaranteed, Murphy allegedly after the same money

He's not as good as Horn so I'd let him walk TBH.

All depends on who is available. They have loads of money, very few draft picks and holes everywhere. Smith is back for another year but apart from that I think their entire secondary is leaving (Smith is also like 36 now). Sounds like Bynum is definitely going so I think they will do all they can to bring Murphy back, the question will be whether someone else offers Horn money (talk about the Raiders and Giants wanting him).

Ultimately they need to find something like 5 starters in the draft and FA, and a lot of depth as well. It’s loads to do and based on Kwesi record so far in the draft then FA looks the way they are going to do it if they are to be competitive next year

Vikings signing CB Isaiah Rodgers - 2 years $15mill.

Not exactly one of the top guys. They missed out on the two I wanted (DJ Reed gone to the Lions and Paulson Adebo to the Giants). Murphy not gone anywhere yet which makes me nervous.

Milton Williams still there as well which is a bit surprising

Looks like it's between Vikings, Panthers and Cardinals for Williams.
