Brilliant from Darnold in OT. Just a fantastic drive and had 2 penalties and a sack to navigate.
This Vikings team has a lot more resilience than others in the past that would have crumbled in OT after the onside kick fiasco. I was really impressed with how we handled OT, especially as we lost the toss and Bears had first shot to win it. 3 less than perfectly played games played on the road, but 3 wins achieved. I don't think the achievement of winning 3 straight on the road should be underestimated.
Now, we're 2 wins away from sealing a play off place. 1 win may even do it. We've had our run of generous fixtures and made the most of them. Of our last 6 games in the regular season, 5 are against play off chasing teams or in Detroit's case, number 1 seed chasing team. The only team not in the hunt that we're still to play are the Bears and even they're dangerous so can't take anything for granted. But 4 of the 6 games are at home.
Called it. Vikings have signed Jones. Also if Darnold gets injured we've got a decent back up.
Don’t mind it as he will be cheap and they only had McCarthy contracted for next season. Assume it means Darnold wanted a big payrise based on his play this year, and he’ll likely get that with another team.
Also I think the Vikings would get some kind of draft compensation if another team decides to offer Jones bigger money/starter possibility, but I’m not 100% on that
Given that virtually every contender wanted to sign him, it goes to show what a good setup Vikings have. Not just for QB's either, for any player. Vikings look after their players - a player survey conducted before the season had Vikings right up there in terms of player treatment, facilities, childcare etc. Obviously it helps with free agents (AVG had plenty of suitors for example) - looking forward to the next FA window with the cap room Vikings now have.
Yeah they’ve had that for years. Most people think it’s because they never win anything and the organisation is pretty soft on that as a whole. Other fan bases riot if they don’t win a Super Bowl/be a serious contender every few years and the players get loads of stick
Money is the biggest motivator of course but after that the biggest downfall is Minnesota itself, most players want to play in a warm, big market city. Minnesota has neither of those things.
With Jones you’ve also got that he has a reasonable chance of starting with the Vikings as well as their only other QB is an unproven rookie coming off a major injury. Don’t think any other contender is in that situation. Plus O’Connell is known as a QB guru, Jones may have looked at how Darnold has done this year coming from a very similar situation to himself (high draft pick who didn’t work out) and thought if I can do that I can resurrect my career.
If I were him I’d just retire, he’s earnt like $100m I think so just pack it in and enjoy the rest of your life. Ironic that the reason he got paid was his one good game was in the playoffs against the Vikings

That final play is embarrassing for any NFL team. Chicago head coach should be fired just for that. Williams is a rookie. That timeout had to be called.
Just seen that Ed Ingram is inactive today and has been demoted to 4th guard on the depth chart as well, and likely has played his last snap as a Viking.
The 2022 draft class keeps on giving. Think the only player drafted that year still on the team is Asamoah and he is unlikely to make next years roster
