Josh King could be a possibility. Played a few games on loan at Preston last season before being recalled when Ferguson was sacked. Seen him on BBC when Preston played Burnley (i think), looked a handful but didn't score during his loan period. Not the target man we need up front but can also play on the wing. Pearson may have seen him at this level and thought he can get more out of him.
He is their first choice keeper, he will cost a bit, and he's only played 27 games this season because of a "succession of injuries". Worryingly since Xmas he's had to have surgery following damaged knee ligaments, missed 6 weeks, played 4 games and then missed the end of the season because the same knee became a problem again.
