4 out of 4 !! 12 points when most pundits said we would get at most 5 points. Now I believe we are on course for a CL place and we are improving... We are now operating at 80-85% of our capacity. Nearly there !!!
If we can find another 15% we will be one hell of a force. Title next season? Wouldn't bet against it.
This year does have echoes of the 05/06 season - new signings taking time to bed in, everyone writing us off, horrible first half of the season followed by great form after Xmas lifting us close to Mourinho's Chelsea side. Tbh the minimum expectation for next season now must be a decent title challenge, particularly with City likely to be spending the next couple of years rebuilding.
I honestly don't think City will do much. I think I read that they have spent £250million in recent years and added one first teamer. That a lot of cash for nothing. They spent £43million on an awful centre back and £28million on a striker who will play less than 30 games during his entire City career.
When City was beaten by the RS all the pundits raved on how they had beaten such a strong team, with the tactical genius of Brenda blah blah. I said at the time that City was on the way down and no way beating City was such a big deal with two long distance strikes. But even I was pleasantly surprised at how we outplayed them. Not just our aggression, or passion, but the way we attacked them and exploited their weaknesses. We were superior everywhere on the pitch. They have an amazing squad, with very expensive players. We have some of the most expensive players too but with LVG we have been looking for the best system to suit. A mixture of quick penetration down one flank with defensive solidity. A mixture too of short passes and long balls to Fellaini. Just like the RS, City had no answer. No one is laughing at LVG's long balls This thread turned out to be a great thread. Luvgonzo wanted to wum but like the RS these days they get egg on their faces each time they attempt something. Over to Chelsea. Will they end our run? They had a lucky win today from a mistake by Green (FFS Isn't he crap, QPR players were almost in tears after the match). I would be disappointed with a draw. Maureen has had the most draws against the top clubs so he'll probably park the bus for a draw. They themselves are winning but they are dreadful. Remind me of United of a few months ago.
More like permanent ***hole, criticising every bloody match even when we won...never missing a single opportunity to blast Moyes Talking about these 5 matches, our very good run and effective formation started with Spurs. They were apparently more awful than we were good. That match certainly gave us a lot of confidence. If we had drawn that match, we would not gone into these difficult matches in such high confidence. May be we ought to give them some credit ....
Nothing to be optimistic about last season. Well not until reports Moyes had been sacked started to appear.
Realist. This and last season. Last season was hopeless. You had to be blind not to see it. It took you all a while but it finally sunk in. Moyes was useless and had to go. I also made a thread that went down great. #worried. So I was optimistic, or ar least tried. Moyes just drained it all away in the end.
I honestly think, if Moyes had stayed, that this season would have panned out very similar for United. A top 4 finish. Especially if he has been given the wedge LvG had been given to spend.
I think Moyes shot himself in the foot with his interviews, never instilled any confidence at all in the supporters minds. When we got beat at home by teams like Newcastle or Westbrom he would say things like "we will try to do better next game", Fergie would say things like "you won`t see a performance like that next week i can tell ye" and he was always right Supporters need to know the manager expects/demands better, not just hope things will improve.
I think he'd have had a good chance at a top four finish, but his record against the top sides makes me think we would have been scrapping with Liverpool for fourth, rather than challenging Arsenal for second. LVG hasn't been great by any measure, but he has done very well at getting us the points in the big games, particularly the last three. People say he's lucked into the formation and line up, but would Moyes have even tried this formation, given he turned down the chance to sign Herrera and tried to play Fellaini in a midfield two?
This Moyes inferior record against the top teams is a significant negative. He goes in these games with an inferiority complex. Whereas LVg positively relishes it.
