Or it could be your lack of any other action has helped you. There are no domestic cup or European games in August so all the other sides had to concentrate on was the league as well. Post September the rest of us had Europe and we got to a cup final where as you limped out of the COC early on and only went one round further in the fa cup. Or did the part time argument only apply when used against Liverpool last year
Normally I would say lack of European matches should have been a positive for the league position. And fewer domestic cup matches would have helped too. However, in United's current situation with new (supposedly good) players and a new manager I am not so sure. LVG may have welcomed more top matches to get his system honed quickly and to get more assessments of his players. If we had matches against the top European sides early in the season, would we have had to wait until match 28-29 to get a good competitive team? We will never know but I for one think that the current United team and LVG will have benefitted from competing against the top European teams. But of course he had lost of injuries and those may have made things worse if we had more matches. Who knows?
No. It only applies when the other clubs were not pathetically ****e in europe. You may have qualified but it in reality you may as well not. When you try and use it to poke fun... You know you have nothing else.
If I supported any of the clubs that brought shame to english football this season, tye last thing I would be harping on about is Europe. They clearly have no shame (we knew this about NF FC)
Shame... In the last 4 years we've won 2 competitions, made a CL semi final and lost on away goals to a decent PSG side. And your recent European record is something to boast about I suppose??!?! Even when you got dumped into Europa you embarrassed yourself in that by getting beaten by a mid tier Spanish outfit.
I remember that season and when we got dumped into that competition I suspected SAF and his team didn't even try and were not too bothered about getting eliminated early by the spanish side. Which top self respecting club bother about the Europa? Even mid tier teams in the premiership put their reserves to play in the competition.
Hmmm...not sure I agree with you here Christian. One thing about Fergie was he took every competition seriously. He never cherry picked #winnersmentality I remember that season too if we're talking about Athletic Bilbao? Think we got past Ajax and then got outplayed by Muniain and an absolute class Bilbao team (who were anything but midtable in la liga that season, they were awesome). The problem for us was that was a sign of the beginning of our deteriorating midfield.
You could try but you're going to struggle finding any United fans being racist idiots in europe this season or in recent seasons. Then theres your horrible and thoroughly embarrassing home game v 10 man PSG. A team struggling to win a poor league despite a huge advantage. Very embarrassing from Chelsea. If you had any shame, you wouldn't be confused right now.
The players didnt care at all. We were completely outplayee though as for Bilbao, it was a huge game.
The classic we 'didn't care' defence. Only marginally better than the 'it was all a dream' narrative shift found in weak TV shows/movies.
Why would any United fans be in Europe at all this season? . Unless they are Matth and confused about what team they support. You wally.
Wouldn't say the players didn't care. But they were definitely distracted by being in a title race that lasted until the last minute of the last game of the season. Chelsea didn't have that worry, as they were only there to make up the numbers in the PL during their successful seasons in Europe. Utd remain the only club that have ever managed to balance success in the PL and success in Europe
Yeh thats why they didnt care. Probably better to say their focus was on bigger and better things. Chelsea, well they were a midtable club managed by a clown who like many small clubs, saw it as a chance to save a terrible season.
