Stoke say there won't be a decision until next week at the earliest and Martinez says later in the day that he's delaying his decision a week. Hmmm. Not a coincidence for me.
@johnacres48: My understanding is that Mark Hughes is the leading contender to replace Tony Pulis as Stoke City manager. #scfc #bbcfootball
There is not a Stoke forum anywhere on the net that wants Hughes as our next manager. I cannot see it happening myself. Coates family are way too savvy for that to happen!
As much as I and other Gooners have been 'critical' in the past of Stoke City FC (and in particular "he's not that sort of boy" Pulis), even I would not want you to be saddled with the ultimate David Brent of soccer managers. Why anyone thinks that Mark Hughes has the potential to be a premiership manager is well beyond my comprehension. Still there's others out there that may make a fist of it - Alex McCleish, Martin O'Neill, George Graham......sorry, I'm just waffling bollox now. I wish your club well in finding a more suitable manager than Shell-suit, It shouldn't be that difficult, should it?
Depressing reports , one after another. 1 ) Hughes is favourite. 2 ) Begovich to L'pool. 3 ) Nzonzi puts in a written transfer. And this week started so well.
It appears Nzonzi's request is down to the club not delivering on it promises which stems as far back as Xmas - reaffirming some of the issues that have bubbling within the club for a while now.
Agreed. It is a little concerning IMO. It could all go pear shaped. Could it be that the players were OK with Pulis at the helm despite the negative tactics and playing people out of position etc etc
I dont thinks o myself - except for the ones that are unlikely to remain with the club or in the prem. After this season I would imagine that a few would have been disheartened - the other thing is that TP was not a man to be crossed and some might have been a little dubious in looking at elsewhere when he was still present.
I am not a fan of Hughes but he did do well at Blackburn & Fulham and was in the top 5 at Man City when he was sacked. I dont like the bloke but his football credentials aren't as bad as some make out. Anyway, I hope we look at other managers aswell and it might be just to keep the negotiations competitive.
I'm fed up with saying about the bookies making money out of this, my thread as had 70ish views and no replies. It's in the stars I tell ye
Hughes inherited a team at Fulham that had just finished as runners-up in the Europa League. He tried to change our tactics and had us in the relegation zone at Christmas. After something of a player revolt, he reverted to our Hodgson tactics and we finished 8th. He was as much a caretaker at Fulham as he was a manager; not an ideal CV for rebuilding the Stoke team.
