i'd have rooney on the bench i think, but agree with guru that scholes should definitely be in ahead of gazza based on the last 15 years! just shows the real weakness on the left side of midfield which has resonated for the best part of two decades since waddle retired...
no emile heskey in that team Walky?? surely. seriously, good team. what about the subs bench as well? James, Campbell, Sheringham, Mcmanaman, Waddle, Lampard and Rooney.
I must admit that I completely forgot all about Scholes when I made my list! All I know is that Euro '96 was the last hurrah for Gazza and he was fantastic!
mcmanaman used to infuriate me! bundles of talent yet he couldn't seem to produce anywhere near his potential. this despite being successful at real madrid, i still feel there was a lot more in the tank
his prime though was in the '91 cup run. he effectively dragged spurs through each round with some epic performances. i wish he'd fulfilled his potential - because he really could have been england's greatest ever player. sadly, too many demons...
i suspect that's cos he thought he was a bloody nightmare!! mind you, didn't robson also turn down ruud gullit? never could spot a player that guy...
Youtube the Brazil v Italy 1970 World Cup Final, every player in that Brazil side is ten times better than Rooney let alone Pele
I remember reading David Beckham had trials with Norwich when shortly before he signed for United. I may be wrong.
this is true. indeed we wanted him to sign but unfortunately he chose man utd as this was his boyhood club, unsurprisingly since he was from london
Forget Spain! This Brasil team from 1970 is still best football team ever assembled I can't think of one current Spainish player that would be able to replace anyone from that Brasil side.
