Asoro going for 2mil....if he doesn't fancy it here then he can go and as with Mcnair he may regret it sooner than later
Want-away Sunderland defender Lamine Kone could be set to leave the club, while a promising youngster may take his place. As Jack Ross' side jetted off to Portugal last week, Kone was left on Wearside as he looked to seal a move away from the club. The Ivorian has made no secret of his desire to leave the Stadium of Light and reports from France suggest that Ligue 1 side RC Strasbourg are keen on the centre back. LIVE: All the latest from the Stadium of Light in our live blog Get French Football report that Le Racing had approached the Black Cats over a possible move for Kone, but were left 'discouraged' after learning of his asking price. However, a number of other sides are thought to be keen on the former Lorient defender as Ross continues to shape his new-look squad. RUMOURS: League One gossip as Sunderland and their rivals eye deals And reports today suggest that the Sunderland boss may be looking to add a promising youngster to his ranks. HITC Sport have reported that the Black Cats are set to hand former Everton defender Jack Bainbridge a two-year deal. UPDATE: Stewart Donald on the future of Sunderland's youngsters A number of League One and Two clubs are thought to have been keen on a move for Bainbridge who comes with some good pedigree. The 20-year-old progressed through the ranks at Goodison Park and featured regularly for the club's under-18 and under-23 sides before making the switch to Swansea last summer. MORE: Sunderland striker set for exit in £2m deal Bainbridge formed part of the Swans' under-23 side but departed the Liberty Stadium at the end of last season. But he could find himself with a new club shortly as Sunderland are reportedly ready to swoop for the promising centre back.
Fans of rival club to the one where Sunderland keeper has gone are hoping they sign Robbin Ruiter Fans of Eredivisie side NAC Breda have been talking up their chances of signing Sunderland's Robbin Ruiter. by Will_White Thursday, 12 July 2018 07:46 PM 0 Comments Been chatting to a Dutchman today. As you do. Got to make the most of our European cousins before Brexit hits after all. This fella is a fan of NAC Breda who finished 14th in the Eredivisie last season. Apparantly, the club who are based in the south of the Netherlands have been through a tough time of late. For one thing, they were forced to face Newcastle United in 2003 - twice. Over 4,000 Geordies descended on their city back then to watch Bobby Robson's boys stuff them 6-0 on aggregate in the UEFA Cup. Just imagine the horror. Since then they've been through a prolonged period of financial turmoil and only returned to the Dutch top flight last season after being relegated in 2015. So as if all that wasn't enough punishment, seems they're dead keen that their club sign Sunderland's Robbin Ruiter. Their big rivals, Willem II landed our academy stopper Michael Woud today and despite recent evidence pointing to quite the opposite, these Dutch fellas seem to believe that Wearside is still a breeding ground for goalkeeping talent. To be fair though, this Dutch fella I was talking to seems a fairly decent judge of character. This is how he described Willem II fans. They sound much like our own rivals... please log in to view this image Anyway, hoping a little Pickford magic will rub off on their own club, NAC are in the market for a goalkeeper. And they're hopeful of landing an experienced one, unlike their rivals who signed our kid today. Ruiter is rather experienced in Dutch football of course. Before he signed for Sunderland, the 31-year-old played over 200 games in Holland. He was even considered quite good when he played for FC Utrecht. You see, both of Breda's senior goalkeepers last season were rubbish. One of them has already scarpered to Denmark. They really want a stopper who is fluent in Dutch, given the comical communication problems which hampered their backline last term. The other fella they have who keeps net is once-capped Australian international Mark Birighitti who once signed for Swansea and never made a first team appearance at the Liberty (much like Joel Asoro's impending career in Wales). Here's his crack on Ruiter... please log in to view this image You'll understand the feeling of watching terrible goalkeepers who are incapable of communicating of course. Sunderland had three of that standard last season. Ruiter was one of them, though he was the least crappest of the trio. To be honest, it wouldn't be a surprise to see Ruiter depart this summer. Whilst probably not earning a fortune at the Stadium of Light, he's no doubt on a mid-ranking Championship goalie's pay. And with the summer arrival of Jon McLaughlin and the painfully slow maturing of Max Stryjek, Jack Ross will probably still be able to sleep at night if does Ruiter leaves us.

By Gav1879@Gav1879 Jul 13, 2018, 2:07pm BSTSHARE please log in to view this image Newcastle United Sunderland are hoping to make at least two additions to their striking department before the season begins in three weeks when we take on Charlton Athletic - and the first of those should be in through the door after the coming weekend. The club are keen on adding strikers that they know are going to score goals at this level, whilst also ensuring they provide us with some variety in a position that requires us to have a bit of everything. Roker Report understand that Sunderland are very interested in Bradford’s Charlie Wyke, Sheffield United’s Billy Sharp and Newcastle United’s Ivan Toney - but they are just three names on a list of forwards that they remain keen on. We’re told that the club have a list of striking targets that they believe can fire us to immediate promotion out of League One, and on there these three men feature prominently. please log in to view this image Photo by Pete Norton/Getty Images Bradford forward Wyke is very highly rated at League One level and just this week a bid for his services was turned down Peterborough United - although we understand that the fee being bandied around, which according to most outlets is £500k, is vastly inflated. He hails from Middlesbrough, and came through the youth setup there before finding his feet at nearby Carlisle United. He signed for Bradford City on winter deadline day in 2017 and his fantastic record of scoring has continued, with the 25-year old netting an impressive 23 goals in 53 appearances. please log in to view this image Also on Sunderland’s radar is out-of-favour Sheffield United striker - a man who really needs no introduction. Although he’s 32-year old, Sharp is a clinical scorer of goals at this level and has proven year after year that he has the quality to score teams up this league and even in to the Championship. Ultimately, he’s suffered from the immense form of Leon Clarke at Bramall Lane in the last twelve months or so and hasn’t featured perhaps as often as he would have liked, and it’s thought that Chris Wilder is willing to allow him to leave - which has alerted Jack Ross and Stewart Donald to his services. Another player we understand that Sunderland are interested in is Newcastle United striker Ivan Toney. The 22-year old former Northampton Town forward has spent the vast majority of his time with Newcastle out on loan at League One-level clubs, and last season played for both Wigan Athletic and Scunthorpe United. He’s not the biggest but is strong and technically very good, with an eye for goal. We understand that, in the case of Toney, a loan deal could be explored - but nothing much is forthcoming at present and as of right now he’s just one of a few players that the club’s recruitment team have within their sights. Having a striker that scores at least 20 goals next season is vital for us to get straight back into the Championship. Id like to think this is an area where Donald sticks his hands in his pockets and pays at least 1m for a proven goal scorer at this level. Smoggie and Geordie rejects is not the answer. Id take Billy as long as he is still Sharp and not Blunt, because hes gone off the radar the past few seasons at Sheff United.
Wyke got 15 goals last season in the league for Bradford. He's 6'2 and still only mid twenties. He's exactly the type we should be looking at. Ivan Toney got 8 goals in 16 games on loan at Scunthorpe from Jan to May last season so is a good league 1 striker. Whilst I'm not keen on loaning a player from Newcastle I wouldn't be against us trying to take him off their hands on a permanent basis. Billy Sharpe would be a ridiculous signing if we could pull that off. Can't see him leaving his boyhood club to drop down and join us
I stand corrected then. Im still very dubious taking on another player from Newcastle though, based on Chopra, Graham, LuaLua and Clarke.
Hopefully the mag isn't our primary target and we land first choice. But still, if he pulls on the jersey I'll back him.
I think we should go all out to get Jack Marriott from Peterborough. He is still Young and a proven goal scorer in this league. 4-5m has been mentioned which is a lot in league 1 but not if we get 8-9 for Khazri.
It's much less of a link, though. Chopra, Graham and Clarke supported Newcastle so there's potential for a conflict of interest (I don't actually accept that there ever was one, mind). You didn't get LuaLua or Graham from us though - I don't think that Graham ever played for us and LuaLua only had a handful of games many years previously. I'm not sure that Toney has ever played for us and he's no Newcastle fan. He's decent at that level, but he's not exactly fired anyone to promotion yet either. He's 22 and lively, but limited.
TRANSFER EXCLUSIVE: Sunderland table bids for Bradford City striker Charlie Wyke & a midfielder Roker Report understand that Sunderland submitted cash offers for Bradford City striker Charlie Wyke and a Championship central midfielder on Friday afternoon. By Gav1879 on July 14th, 2018 8:00 am please log in to view this image Photo by Pete Norton/Getty Images Sunderland are very much ramping up their search for new players, and we understand that two bids were tabled on Friday as the club look to strengthen the core of their side with plenty of time to spare before the season begins. Yesterday afternoon we brought you the news that the club are focused on signing the attacking trio of Billy Sharp, Ivan Toney and Charlie Wyke, and in the midst of that news, the first solid move was made to bring one of the three men to the club. An official six-figure bid was tabled for Middlesbrough native Wyke yesterday, and the club very much see him as one of their top targets ahead of next season. please log in to view this image Photo by Pete Norton/Getty Images Peterborough United were also thought to be keen on the Bradford City striker and had a bid rejected earlier this week, but they signed Jason Cummings on loan from Nottingham Forest yesterday, and having brought in Matt Godden from Stevenage Borough earlier in the window, it would seem that their business with regards to signing strikers is over for the time being. Wyke is apparently extremely interested in a move to Sunderland, and all parties are hopeful of reaching a resolution sooner rather than later. We also understand that a cash bid was made yesterday afternoon for an as-yet unnamed Championship central midfielder, and that the club are very confident of securing his signature. Although the club have so far only made free transfer signings, that’s in large part due to a need to get the out-of-contract players that Jack Ross wanted on board while they were still available, particularly Jon McLaughlin and Dylan McGeouch. With the majority of next season’s players already through the door, though, the focus now switches to spending some money in the transfer market on key areas of the squad where we need the type of quality that will separate us from the rest of the clubs at this level.
A lad I work with is a massive Carlisle fan and he,was gutted when they sold Wyke to Bradford and he said that was the sole reason they didn't get promoted or made the play offs that season. He's big and awkward and has an eye for goals and is probably just what we need next season. At the time he left Carlisle I never imagined we would be looking to sign such a player, how things have changed at our club, unbelievable really.
Next time you are at The Stadium, pause for a moment at the statue of a former Manager who was a lifelong N/C Fan. You might also consider that in his side that won The Cup were a couple of Ex N/c players (one was the sub) and Dennis Tuert was a N/C lad. In our 'Player of The Century' vote, the player who came second was signed by us from N/C. We regularly see and hear Bob Moncur on the local TV and radio as the 'voice of N/C' but when he left them he came here, took the Captaincy from Bobby Kerr and never gave less than 100% becoming a favourite of most of us. My point is that as well as coming up with transfers that have failed, there have been many successes' too. Perhaps it would be best to judge each on it's individual merit rather than a blanket NO, just because of the connection.
Or better to judge each generation of football on it's own merit? The Tyne Wear Derby has changed. It's much less friendly. Maybe the reason there's been little success in cross club and cross city transfers in recent decades is because of the way the fixture intensity and relationship has changed brings pressure none of the players you mentioned have had to endure by modern standards(not saying there was never trouble) because 1000 of fans from both clubs were propping up each others attendance. Geordies and mackems sing side by side in candid jest with each other as they cheered the same team. Now we have fans confronting players, punching horses and smashing up towns. A 24/7 never ending social networking war where fans bicker around the clock in a domain shared with most of the players. It's worlds apart. There's way more pressures heaped on players who are daring to do this sort of move in this day and age. And although I'm not completely against it I think it's heaped with potential problems and something we should be extra cautious with as I think often these players get confidence and stupidity confused. Well that's what think anyway. Handle with care.
