If people asked me what my favourite song was, I'd respond something like it changes all the time, I don't really have one but that was before I heard this song:

In my mind, this is my favourite ever song. The melody is enchanting and evocative, the lyrics are sweet and portray a 'perfect day' between two people, a day where 'every moment was so precious', but with a hint of nostalgia as if the event in the song is one that is long gone and perhaps can not be recreated again. Interesting, on a lyric website I read a comment which provided an interesting view on the song. In the opinion of the writer, it seemed to have a military feel to it and in his/her view, it told the story of a couple who have been separated by war. It fits in with the theme of the Viva La Vida album as a whole and there are certain lyrics that may support this view, for example "People moving all the time inside a perfectly straight line", suggests soldiers marching in a column of some kind while "Everybody was for fighting" suggests that song is against the backdrop of some kind of war, perhaps the French Revolutionary Wars? Furthermore, in the video there is a clip where it repeats the image from the front cover of Viva La Vida (the French Revolution). That's one of the great things about the song, at first glance it looks like a simple love song, but then on second glance, there's more to it than that and I think there is definitely some element of sadness to it.
An addition reason why I like this song so much is because it reminds me of my second date with my ex. We went for a picnic and it was lovely, lying in the sun, watching clouds while people play cricket. It was a perfect day. She turned out to be a bitch unfortunately and very callous with people's hearts but at the time, it was a lovely day.
