Whoever said the wages being taken care of by the league not the club is spot on. One of the reasons they scrapped the reserve league for a few years, didn't wnat to pay young Americans money, but pay second rate latin american players higher wages because Gonzalez might bring about more people to the stadium.

I am all for the latin style, ****, I coach with the Brazilian philosphy!! but it is the same with the British thing, people here some talk from anywhere in the British/Irish accent and think they know the whole lot about the game. Same applies with some Colombian league 3 player coming over as a "designated player" to get all the money to do very little.

Totally agree, when I turned 19 I coached a U9 ayso team, and all the parents thought i was scottish, because i apparently have a weird accent, even though my ancestors on both sides of my family come over on the Mayflower, and I've lived in California my whole life. They thought I was going to be some all powerful coach. (which i was).

We ended up being the Arsenal of our league, played the prettiest football, but didn't win anything. <laugh>

My team was the only team that could pass the ball more than 5 times without losing it in a game. <diva>

I grew up playing division one club ball in MN and ODP. I guess since I started listening to British soccer podcast for years (WFD, World Football Phone In, 5 Live, ect.) I realize how little my coaches actually knew about the game. I feel like as coaches inevitably gets better in this country, so will our youth and eventually we will hopefully have a break through player in Europe that can spark the sport in this country.

We did... two of them ( Subotic and Rossi), except we treated one like **** so he chose Bosnia and the other was never invited in and made to feel wanted by Arena!

****** Arena never brought him in, and when he did try to Rossi asked for a simple request, going out to Cali for the first time he wanted his girlfriend to come along, Bruce said no and if he shouldn't have to deal with those requests.

But yes, he still chose Italy over us! Easy choice though I guess.

I don't blame him, but imagine if our national team had a decent striker. WC QFs here we come. <laugh>

I didn't know that about his girlfriend and what not, just knew he had the option to play for USMNT since he was born and raised in New Jersey, and Italy where he went to play when he was a teenager. Then chose Italy.

Ya, apparently guys like Bradley or whoever were Arena's assistants at the time kept chirping on about this boy Rossi who is from NJ and playing for United, but they didn't really make him feel wanted and Italy were all over him.

The great ODP system thought that Subotic was average and treated him pretty bad while praising the likes of MARVELL WYNN, wonder who is doing better now.....

    Where is Subotic from?

Brede Hangeland is from Texas, but plays for Sweden.

I also find it interesting that there is now a large influx of Germans on USMNT who don't speak English. On one hand I think it's awesome that we now have a few decent players who've been trained in Germany their whole lifes, but at the time they aren't really American. Would they play their heart out for us, like our team in the Confederation Cup, or even the 2010 World Cup team.

I think Ozil and Khedira have done excellent for Germany and both are clearly not from Germany! Same goes for Deco who was a naturalized Portugeuse player, there is a long list of players who chose another country. England is still full of English players and they are not exactly lighting it up!

Subotic I believe was from florida, he played for USF ( south Florida) and was part of the Bradenton Academy. Shame, we really lack a top top CB at the moment along with a top CF/SS/RF/LF/input any attacking position that might cause some sort of threat!

Gooch has been playing well in Portugal for Sporting Lisbon apparently, and Goodson isn't too bad either, but there is no depth. I'd like to see Omar Gonzalez called up, don't think he has made a competitive appearance for us, and his Grandma is from Mexico. He's about 12 times better than Tim Ream, who some how keeps getting called up despite playing like **** all year long. Omar is the anchor to the Galaxy's defense which is being regarded as possibly the best in MLS history. With Klinsmaan's policy of bringing in all the hispanic players that play in Mexico, but are from the States I'm surprised Omar hasn't got a look.

Oh and Gonzilla for MVP. <diva>

Speaking of did they pull out the win last night against Morelia? I saw it was 2-1 and not much time left but fell asleep. Dallas got smacked by Tauro 5-2, wasn't even close.
