There was a disaster on Saturday? Arsenal are so desperate that scoring no legitimate goals against a Spurs side missing three key players and with three others carrying injuries counts as a massive success? They did play pretty well to be fair, but I'm not worried that they can keep it up all year. Possibly they might win a cup.
So if they win a cup, that leaves the Prem, the CL and the other domestic cup, which do you think Spurs might win?, or might Arsenal be more successful than Spurs yet again this season?
We need to cement our place in the CL as the top priority over winning Cups, as that is the best way of keeping our squad together. If we continue to improve we will win something in the end, but given how far we were behind five years ago and how much more money everyone else has got, I'm pretty happy that we are making progress. We can lose a few battles if we win the war.
But, City, Chelsea and the Mancs are on the up, us and Arsenal and Burnley are only a point behind you in the league and tbf City plus Barca and Real plus a plethora of other clubs might be trying as hard as Spurs to win the holy grail.
It won't be easy that's for sure, but the long term interest of the club is better served by CL qualification than winning the FA cup. That isn't any sort of claim that winning a trophy isn't a success.
It's the nearest thing to winning a trophy plus the financial reward from the CL is more than that of winning a domestic cup, so yeah.
Both legit under the rules of the game in the referee's view and the FA always uphold the referee and not a bunch of whinging underachievers.
Dunno, i'd say their are intangibles to both. Qualifying for the CL is just a means for the club to buy better players/pay more wages (you aren't doing that). Realistically, how many players care about playing in the CL as long as they are paid. qualifying for the CL has tangible results in basicaly more money. I'd argue winning the FA cup (okay not so high on the list for money earnt) brings with it other intangibles that you don't see - a winning mentality, silverware to boost morale amongst the fan base, exposure as a club that is winning stuff (and you need plastics to make money unfortunately). If you were to win the Europey, then thats even more valuable than just a top 4 finish - worldwide exposure and a route to the CL Just my take on it. Ideally, you'd want your team to just go for both, i would not be in favour of my club throwing matches just to declutter their schedule and not go for it. Sure rest some players as necessary and prioritise but don't out and out disregard any trophy
It does make me laugh seeing the argument from Spuds that qualifying for the CL is now better than winning cups. When Arsenal did that for a decade, they were all over it trying to mock the 'top 4 trophy'. Now that Arsenal have won a few cups in the last few seasons, it's suddenly all about finishing in the top 4 Fickle ****s
