Does anyone else think that it's cruel that losing finalists have to not only stay put after the presentation but also be forced (often holding back tears) to give an interview? Gone are the days when they simply accepted their trophy and made a quick exit to the changing rooms. This really came to my attention during last year's AO (I think it was, may have been the FO) when Nadal beat Andy Murray, Murray never good with the media had to splutter several answers to the interviewer. He was in no fit state to prepare for the questions thrown his way and I remember him saying a cringeworthy "if only I could play tennis like Raffa" I was embarrassed for him. I also remember Roger Federer shedding tears in front of the world's media after being beaten (I think by Raffa) and no one likes to break down in public, not even women but in front of the world's media must be so much worse. Raffia looked really upset today as he was forced to listen to Djokovic's pure delight at winning the AO, I'm sure he had to also make some sort of speech though I didn't see it this time. I think this is so cruel and it was never done in the old days. Why does the media have to dominate everything? Why can't we just see the trophies presented and then the winner's speech, plenty of time for the loser to say his bit when he has had time to come to terms with his defeat. A tennis player plays tennis for a living, he doesn't ask and shouldn't need to be to be good with the media and Andy Murray is a prime example of this - I wish they'd give them a break!
