Agree you can pick up on the behavioural aspects. But I'm talking more about team tactics and structure. You're able to gauge the space in between defenders, the line of defence, the space between midfield and defence etc etc.
Sorry but it's nonsense. I watch games on TV regularly and go to games regularly. I share a season ticket with my bro so when he has the Kop ticket I usually get a seat in the paddock next to a mate of mine. The Kop seat is 6 rows from the back, the paddock seat is 12 rows from the front half way between the Anny Rd and the dugout. 2 completely different views yet from either one I can see ten times the amount I ever see on TV. What you miss on the far side of the pitch is the minute details (who got the last touch etc) but you certainly don't miss anything tactically or spacially. Just the opposite.
If Mario wins player of the year, it'll be a shame that a real recipient missed out... but it will be amusing nonetheless.
This is spot on. My seats are in the Park End about 7 rows from the front. I decided to move a few years back years and had a pair of front row seats in the Top balcony one season, which gave a birds eye view of the game but it felt detached and I much preferred my old seats so I moved back. You don't miss a thing being close to the pitch, as you say, quite the reverse.
And the other thing is.....you watch the game from the seats then more often than not go home and watch it again on the telly.....unless they've played ****e anyway Taking the subject back to Balotelli and the assertion that Jimmy rates him because of his talent not his loyalty or lack of loyalty. Can I ask how many times he shows this talent? How many fans of the clubs he's played for would say they see this "talent" any more than a few times a season if that? To me a player has talent not just because he can do a few fancy flicks and skills. Talent at the top level is about producing week in week out, season after season. Balotelli can't (or won't) do that. Never has and I suspect never will. So just how has he earned more respect than players like Hendo or Skrtel who make more of their respective talents than they probably should?
That's the thing - I don't actually rate him. I just think he's the scapegoat this season and a lot of it is unjustified. A lot of talk about his workrate and being lazy, yet no one wants to criticise Sturridge for this workrate. Just little things like that is what annoys me. And how Mario struggled when playing as a lone striker, but then Sturridge has suffered also .

The Italian was signed as Suarez's successor last summer after he joined Barcelona, but has struggled to make an impact on Merseyside, scoring just once in the Premier League. However Suarez, who is set to face off against Bayern Munich in Barca's Champions League semi final clash on Tuesday, defended Balotelli, reports the Liverpool Echo. “I think Mario has played for big clubs, proving himself to be a formidable player,” the 28-year-old told Mundo Deport
He may thrive more over the next few seasons as, losing Sterling (and possibly Ibe in a year or two) to follow on from Luis, we'll have to change our style from lightning quick counter-attack and fast pass-and-move, to ponderously slow build-up and 'POMO'. Let's get Woy back and buy Carroll back too, with Connor Wickham at knockdown price if Sunderland go down.
all he siad was he played for big clubs and is formidable. that doesn't actually mean anything if you were a player would you say... oh x or y.. compelte **** and risk sometime having to play with or against said **** player? good recipe for a kick in the gob that.
Some journo obvs just asked him for his opinions on what he thinks of LFC now and since he has a fondness for the club and doesn't want to upset its fans he's just paid lip service with a vague, catch-all quote. That's it
I always think you get a better view of tactics when watching the game at the ground, TV camera angles can create space that simply isn't there. I've watched the game on TV after watching it at the ground and it just doesn't seem to be the same game at times.
In real life he's hard to spot, you know he's on there somewhere as he's named in the starting line up but spotting him is a bit like that Where's Wally thing.
