    I think it's that Jorge Mendes ?

The vast majority of players would still ike to join United if given the chance. With the FFP rules coming into effect soon and our improved position then the whole money factor of a few years ago isn't such an issue anymore neither.

I think you're spending too much time with DL and EC Dave.

    Doing a Matth

After @soccerex and #4Amigos tonight, let's deal with Falcao/MU. But they HAVE paid an advance as they did with de Gea

Just want to test the water on this! What about Benteke in our team, he has been really impressive, strong, good touch, good in the air and Villa are a selling club. What I would call an old school forward, defenders don't like being bullied. Just a thought.

Good PL striker, but not CL quality which is what we need if we didn't have four good strikers already.

There are other areas of the team that need strengthening, striker is one of our best positions in terms of quality and depth...

May have value as a plan B in some games, if we're struggling a bit to hold the ball up. But then that's what they said about Berbatov and that wasn't really an unqualified success.

For me, Falcao and Stoke are a match made in heaven, and we shouldn't interfere. Maybe offload Nani and Anderson, and get like for like replacements, better obviously.

Bentenke needs to be good for another season before he can be considered as a top striker.

Though I'm sure Liverpool are willing to pay 35 mil for him right now.

So Alan Shearer is giving Wayne Rooney advice on his career? Laughable really when you think of his decisions, left Southampton to join Blackburn(could of joined us) won 1 trophy, left them for his home club nothing wrong with that(but could of joined us), as much as he was the all time PL scorer your trophy cabinet is your bedside draw, he could of won another 18 trophies to join us, I know it's not about winning or silverware but not good to think you where that good but nowt to show for it! Stick with the punditry Al, and keep the advice/opinions for pissed people on a Saturday night, unless you fancy a stint at Managing again coz that went down well on Tyneside <laugh>

Just to clarify im not slating Al as a player, legend as a striker, just not the best advert for career decisions

  18. Didn't Shearer join Blackburn because Dalglish was manager? Seem to remember reading that Kenny was Alan's idol as a kid.

I admire his decision to join Newcastle, it was his boyhood club and, at the time, they were outside challengers for honours so he wanted to fulfill a childhood dream. If it was me, I'd prefer to win one thing with the club I love than twenty things with a club I don't.

Pretty sure he joined Blackburn cos Utd wouldn't match their bid and were too slow to enter negotiations - Shearer had already signed by the time we got our arse in gear. It was one of SAF's biggest gripes with the board that they were so slow to sort any big transfer deals out. We missed out on Gazza as a result, almost lost Keane to Blackburn, and only got Cantona cos Leeds inquired about Irwin.

Definitely agree with you there. Respect to Shearer for following his heart, tho' I think Newcastle also outbid our £12 million offer in the end so he may have struggled to try and force a transfer to Utd had he wanted to go to us. Remember those were pre Bosman days so the player had a lot less say in their destination.

Tho' it's fair to say Newcastle were in no way outside challengers for honours - they'd led the table for most of the season before he joined, and only lost out to us after a late collapse. Shearer joining them should have been the equivalent of RVP joining Utd - just the boost they needed to push past a close rival.

I think if they'd had better managers than Keegan and Dalglish they would almost certainly have won a league title in Shearer's first few years. Unfortunately by the time they got Bobby Robson in Dalglish had already wasted too much money on Pistone, Andersson, Dabizas, Guivarc'h and Jon Dahl Tommasson. Sound familiar? ;)
