Rafael has been great for us. His biggest issue was his injury record. He just wasn't consistently fit and this ultimately cost him his place at United.

To say he was never good enough is mental. He was a kid when he joined and when fit, played. His attitude was fantastic though it sometimes got him in hot water. Since he joined, there's been few right backs in the league most United fans would have swapped him for.

Sweats is right. You've slagged off Young a fair bit but over the past two seasons he's arguably been our best outfield player. Last season he played well as a left back. He'd never played there before in his entire freaking career! Imagine asking the talented but brain dead Nani to play as a full/wing back!

Last two seasons? It's closer to the last two months of last season. He was absolute trash under Moyes. The year before he was even worse.

And yes he did ok as a left back. No better than Valencia as a right back. Just as Rooney did ok as a midfielder. You wouldn't play him there all the time though.

Young has some redeeming qualities as a winger though. Unlike Valencia he does try and beat a man. Ultimately he tries the same trick every time but he at least gives it a go.

I would also say Januzaj and Herrera were our best outfield players of the last two seasons.

Januzaj was utter gash last season. Granted he was good the previous season. Herrera was good the second half of last season. The season before that he played for another club.

They do both have more exotic names than Young though.

You do spout some Redcafe crap.

What I will say is that injuries have been mentioned as a defence of both Nani and Rafael but not Young.

In the previous three seasons Young has reached a point of finding form only to be injured and then go back to square one. He then always takes a while to find his form again. Same with England, when he first got into the England team he had a strikers goal scoring record then injuries hit and his form fell away.

I can't and am not defending his diving but if injuries can mitigate poor form for others then they should for Young.

He doesn't get anywhere near the top 10 right backs the PL has ever had. From Gary Neville to Rafael, hmm, ok <laugh>

One has been with you one season and the other didn't play much last year, so how the **** are they considered the best from the past two seasons? <laugh>

I think what he's saying is Herrera was best player last year and Januazj the season before.

At least I hope so as Januazj was pretty hopeless in the few games he played last season.

Just to put in perspective my point about fees for both players (particularly Rafael). Soldado's fee to Villareal is £11m. Soldado ffs!! I'm NOT comparing players directly, just trying to show that both ours should have been valued more reasonably.

Yes but then his sell in fee is relative to his original purchase price of £27 million. Plus, Soldado's reputation in Spain is based on his work in Spain, not in the PL.

That can't be said of Rafael and France. His fee there will be based on a few years of depreciation on his transfer cost to us plus the fact he's hardly played for two seasons.

I'm just saying ppl cant simply argue Rafael is only worth 2.5m bcos he was ****.

Regarding the other valid points you mention, even if you factor them in it's still a disproportionate difference. There's also things in Rafael's favour. He's still only 25, he's played at the highest level including the CL and when you consider the number of half decent RBs around Europe atm he's still a good purchase. £2.4m is a pittance quite honestly.

Januzaj was good under Moyes. Clearly our best outfield player. Young however, he was one of our worst players under Moyes. You could possibly say Fellaini was worse but that's it.

Young had a good two months. Herrera a good half season. The whole team took a while to get going.

Obviously some of you place pointless running and poor quality above technique and footballing ability. That's fine. I don't just randomly pick some player who for 90% of his United care has been our worst player and suddenly claim a few decent performances make his great.

It's like claiming Cleverley is better than Herrera.

When fit rafael is one of the top right backs around. You dont spend 7 years (6 as first choice) at United without having some quality. Coleman, zabaletta and Ivanovic are about the only ones better over the past 7 seasons.

It's a real shame he could never stay fit. He played less than 29 games in 3 of those 7 seasons (came back into th team as first choice though) and only 40 games once. We didn't bother signing another right back, preferring to bed in young centre backs when Rafael wasn't fit.

    But he was rubbish.

Yep, with all the rubbish/not good enough players we have had the last few years it makes you wonder who won all those medals for the team.

Flukes, bribes and of course, the league or cup competition was rubbish.

To be fair, Ronaldo was rubbish too. Many, including our own, thought he was a show pony and little else.

Thank goodness some people are more patient than others <whistle>

Jose Antonio reyes was bought at the same time by Arsenal and for the same price. I still remember the number of articles by so called pundits who castigated SAF for buying a show pony and how Reyes was 100% better for the same money. Wenger was praised to the rafters <laugh> just shows that these media pundits know as much about football as the average fan. Didn't 95% of pundits also not say that United didn't have a chance of top 4 before the RS match?
