Have a look back and try your very best to name 3 better wingers at the time. Don't just name Robben, Ribery and Di Maria. Nani was out performing all 3 back then.

    Good luck and Godspeed.

Damian duff had a good season doesn't make him world class.

Honestly you're the only person in the world to put Nani on such a high pedestal. He was and has always been ****.

Him and his stats can **** off.

I don't like having a go at one of our own ie you. But you're as mad as astro.

Bale? Or are we not allowed to say him either?

When exactly was this 18 month period? I can honestly hand on heart not think of an 18 game period where he was consistently good, let alone 18 months.

He NEVER showed enough periods of excellence, merely a few flashes occasionally.

Have to disagree with you there. Whether they were good enough for United we can agree to disagree on. But that's not really relevant to their value to another club as that would mean no player in the league that isnt good enough for United would ever sell for more than £2m to £3m.

You cant judge the sell on price using United as the benchmark for their sale value. If Raphael or Nani were at Everton or Spurs they'd be selling for more than the price we're offloading them at tbh. Raphael is only 25.

I think they both went for what they were worth. That's a bit harsh on Rafael but not on Nani.
The truth is though there was no competition for their signings and no clubs in the Premier league or any other top league showed a shred of interest, and that tells the story.

Nani outperformed Bale at that time.

Im not sayinghe was the best, only that it could be argued. His overall play was backed up by the numbers he was producing. Goals and assists.

Nobody in England was better. On europe, you would be hardpressed to find someone who at the time was better.

You really can't remember his best period of form?

His stats were backed up by his overall play. Which the likes of Duff can only dream of ever doing.

Nani was just unpopular with some fans because he was a risk taker and a flair player.

I'm always disappointed with the way we swing from one extreme to another. Nani therefore was either **** or world class. Not a criticism of anyone in particular but Bebe was **** and Ronaldo was world class. Nani was neither, he was a good player, he just lacked the right decision making in the final third. Crossing when he should be shooting or shooting when he should be crossing. But in terms of technical ability he was very good indeed.

No player who tore apart Arsenal and Liverpool in one season almost single handedly can be classed as a bad player. But he lacked consistency and was given countless opportunities to fix up but failed to reach the potential he should have. In that respect his time at the club was over and he needed to move on.

For most of his time here he was so inconsistent it drove me mad. However, for a period he managed to bring that consistency, decision making and intelligence to his game. He was absolutely brilliant right up until that attempted leg breaker by Carragher.

During his best period, he ripped Arsenal, Liverpool, City, Bayern and more apart. That first half performance against van Gaals Bayern was something else though.

I can remember him playing well and having great performances of course, but a whole 18 months you refer to? No.

He should have been very good and had the talent and potential to be so but he didn't have the brain and definitely didn't have the consistency.

    He was exasperating really.

Im sure he had the odd bad game during the time but it was rare. He was in the form of his life and was our best player at the time.

I believe he was voted as such.

I can't accept the pedestal he is on. He was ****e for 90% of the time he was with us.

People like Kevin Phillips and some fat bloke who played for Ipswich have won the golden boot. Doesn't make them the best in Europe.

He had a few good games at the end of one season and few decent ones the following. Interspersed with thinking he was the second coming of ronaldo and fell over his own feet and gave the bloke sat in row z a black eye.

And another point, you in as many words said you think Ashley Young is **** and would happily see him not get another contract. Yet he was consistently good last year. Was pretty decent the year before and was good the season we got him. So he has already outperformed Nani in an 8th of the time.

He was and still is better than Young. Young was decent for half of last season. He didn't really do anything before Xmas. He was rubbish in Moyes' season and as bad as any player the year before. He had a good first season though.

Nani was here for 7 years. He had plenty of good games early on as well as bad ones. Around 2010 he really picked up and for a year and a half, was great.

Let's chalk this off as another thing we disagree over and move on <ok>

What year are we looking at? Bale, Ronaldo, Giggs, Robben, Ribery etc are world class. Nani is/was a poor mans Ronaldo. Ashley Young and Antonio Valencia at their best were/are also better than Nani.

I'm not looking at the transfer value, I was just saying that they should never have been signed for Utd anyway as they imo were not of the class befitting Man Utd.

2009 to 2011. Ronaldo isn't a winger, Ribery and Robben were the company Nani rubbed shoulders with at the time.

As for Valencia or Young ever being better. Just no. Valencia had one great season and then became so bad, he couldn't even be considered as a winger anymore. The revisionism with Young is funny though. The undisputed worst player for two years straight (contributed nothing, in his play or other). Topped the diving league during that time too. An absolute joke of a player during that time. All forgotten because of a few good months at the end of last season.
